We have decided to change our frontroom somewhat. With the movement our viewing position will go from 8ft to 11.5ft.

We will change the telly as we only have a 37inch. Looking at these calculators, it says that at that distance, 50inch would be okay. Anyone think that is too much, or would you have it? My priority is HD SKY (footie, films), PS3 (gaming & blu-ray).

    Cheers

Maybe the 50" is a little big,but I think that a 46" will fit well!!What is your budget?

    Around 2-2500K.

I was kinda thinking about the 46 X3000, but that may be overbudget.

The 46X3500 surely fits your budget!!!The complett which usually takes first stock and overprices sells the 46X3500 for 2199£!!!So you dont have to worry it fits!!

    Ideal distances :
    720p and 50" = 10-12 feet
    1080p and 50" = 8 feet

ok, I don't know if you know about HD TV or not ? do you know 720p? 1080p?

if yes then to appreciate the fantastic picture you get from these devices you have to place them at the ideal distance

normally,as you have done, you measure the distance from your seated position to the TV, then you say what you will mostly watch(which you have) and from those you get the ideal TV size

50" TV at 11 feet is ideal for 720p viewing(SKY HD is 720p and 1080i) and pretty ok for 1080p(PS3 movies+games)

get yourself a 50 inch 720p LCD TV and save the extra you would have paid for a 1080p set

50" at 8 feet would be like the front row at the cinema, I have a 32" at 7 feet and wouldn't want any bigger you'd have to turn your head to see both sides of the screen :)
