i need to remove something from 11,000 odd lines of excel , the problem is it goes from [ID: 1] to [ID: 113827] and may not be consecutive , can anyone point me towards a 'batch' way of doing this :smashin:

need more information. What is ID? Row number? Can you not select from the top left to bottom right and delete? do you need to keep some data in that 'area'?

Will you always have the same number of lines (rows) that you need to delete?

Any chance you could attach a cut down example of what you want to do? It could save a bit of time!

    sure can ....

    -2.18947 53.07566 GATSO , 30 mph, North East [ID: 28412]
    -1.41049 54.8913 GATSO , 30 mph, North East [ID: 2866]
    -1.21214 53.13972 GATSO , 30 mph, North East [ID: 2905]
    -0.15061 51.44564 GATSO , 30 mph, North East [ID: 2913]
    -1.28845 53.6027 GATSO , 30 mph, North East [ID: 2914]
    -2.29679 53.45626 GATSO , 30 mph, North East [ID: 2928]

i want to remove all the stuff inside and including the [ ] from each line , does that make more sense now ? :)

    i.e.

    -2.18947 53.07566 GATSO , 30 mph, North East
    -1.41049 54.8913 GATSO , 30 mph, North East
    -1.21214 53.13972 GATSO , 30 mph, North East
    -0.15061 51.44564 GATSO , 30 mph, North East
    -1.28845 53.6027 GATSO , 30 mph, North East
    -2.29679 53.45626 GATSO , 30 mph, North East

i know i can do it line by line but that would be extremely tiresome to say the least !!!

    Yes!!

Use a simple find and replace

Find " [*" (without the quotes) and replace all (leave blank). Voila!
