Birds of Prey

I had a drive down to a place called Broadwings in Ashton near Wigan to get a few shots of birds of prey.

Unfortunately they only open up at the weekend as the guys that run it work during the week.

As I pulled up around the back their Dad came out and said I could watch him feed the birds and take a few shots, what a great guy.

I should warn people that the birds are being fed in most of the shots, I haven't posted the graphic ones but the food is visible.

The light wasn't great, the birds were in a covered enclosure and I didn't count on being so close to them, hence not many are of the full bird ( Sigma 100-300).

All taken hand held.

5. This owl was huge

The European Eagle Owl above was taken from the side with it's door open shooting through the door, it was so big and so close that I couldn't focus on it from in front of the open door (it was the end bird)

6. This owl was not amused.

The Snowy Owl above was taken through the mesh.
This is a rescue bird that had been badly treated and is very timid. It started to shake when it saw me so I moved away. A crying shame.

11. And a sparrow as I was driving away

I didn't get the guys name, if his son's come across this thread tell him thanks, he told me lots of info about the birds.

Thanks for looking.

Nice set, you were lucky to get a private viewing, i agree, its a shame about the last owl being badly treated, that was good of you to move away and let it settle again.
