What are the benefits of bipolar surround speakers over the traditional uni-directional variety?

Richer Sounds have a pair of Eltax HT2BP bipolar speakers for £49.95. Apparently a saving of £100. Are these any good?

The facing bipoles sides are in phase (Dipole sides are in opposite phase)

Just spreads the sound wider/further. I personally prefer using bipoles/dipoles as side/surrounds instead of monopoles.
