This channel has 'appeared' on my Ondigi box. It represents everything that is bad about satellite, cable & terrestrial digital TV. Why is it that these channels have all the bandwidth they need whilst other 'real' channels break up? In the same category as bid up TV (name invented by Ali G?) I would put QVC and those holiday channels. What a pity we can't switch those channels off and devote the bandwidth to something a little more worthwhile.

    Rant over.

Agreed. I've reordered my channels and created favourites so that I can flick through just the decent channels. My digibox is a Pace BTW.

Back on topic, bid up tv is goddam awful........

If everyone refused to watch them they would soon go away.

I think they should all be banned. Shopping channels should not get broadcast liscences and I think the Ad to Program ratio should be limited for all channels!!!!!

A bloke opposite me at work goes on about bid up all the time, he spends as much on there as I do on DVDs, and thats sacry.

Sad thing is he bought his girlfriends engagement ring on there, and apparentley she loved it. No accounting for taste!!

HAHAHAHAHAHA he has just walked in, and as it is 'dress down day' he is wearing a 'I won at bid-up tv' T-shirt.

There is no hope for the socially inept!!

Considering how many shopping channels we get on Sky Digital, they must be making decent money. I don't have anything against them, but I've never seen anything on there worth buying yet.

I've become addicted to bid-up tv, and its lower quality rival 'Auction TV'.

I don't know what it is about them, but as soon as I switch on I just get sucked in and I can't turn over.

I love watching the guy who is always totally plastered in make up. He's got so much on that he doesn't look real. Always reminds me of the robot that Jude Law played in A.I.

There have been a few shopping channels go bust and they operate on very low overheads squeezing the suppliers very hard on price.

I've heard a lot of nasty stuff about Auction TV. They've been rapped on the knuckles by the ITC several times, and I've heard that they regularly bid on their own auctions to raise the prices. Do a Google search, I found a site that was devoted to complaints about Auction TV.

Although Bid-up say they have the right to bid on their auctions to bump the prices up, I don't know if they do.

I just know that I would never order anything from Auction TV. I might from Bid-up... if they sell something besides toilet seats and gem globes. :)

Yeah, by now everyone in Britain must own one of these. Or maybe it's just one guy with a really big collection. :)

And where do they get these guide prices on the auction channels? I swear I've seen the same gold bracelet on Bid-up TV with a guide price of £150 on AuctionTV for £1500!

They use a company to value their products which give them their 'guide' prices. They say that if you buy some jewelry and you get it valued differently from their guide price then they'll pay you the difference.

The only catch is that you have to use THEIR valuers who did the valuation in the first place ! What a con.

Is it? I noticed when I surf past it, my set switches, but it doesn't look like a proper widescreen picture. (ie, everyone is too short)

It definitely is mate. I double checked before posting :smoke:

I didn't stay on the channel too long to check the height of the presenters though. Maybe they're all dwarfs?

It always cracks me up when they're trying to flog watches. They never actually say watch - instead it's a 'time piece'. And they always try to make out that it's some major designer label from Italy or something, but I've never heard of them before. The usual one is 'Vito Carlucci - probably made in Milton Keyes or something.

Best thing on the shopping channels is watching someone try to sell something technical. They rattle off the specs, then usually prove that they have no clue about what they're trying to sell.

"Look, the remote not only has rewind... but fast-forward as well! That's the kind of features that you only get with these high-quality brand name products."

These are the kind of people who consider "Interactive Menus" to be a "feature" of DVDs.
