Sky called my mother the other day.

Tried telling her she had to pay 60 quid.

I thought not our house is multi room ,1 SKY+ box and 1 older digibox.

    They called again last night.

I spoke with them and it turns out they are trying to scare me into buying hardware insurance, telling me how much on site support calls would be, and new hardware. they charge 65 pounds for a call out.

We are out of the 12 month period, have been for some time. We have all channels, so sky get enough $ from this household.

The digibox is about 5 years old, and the sky + box, 2 years.

Why start the hard sell now.

I installed and coonfigured both. I dont think I will take this up.

I can buy an LNB or Digibox for the price of the callout.

Could cancel and get a sibling to register in their name to get free new hardware, with lock in I know.

    BEWARE!!!! TELL FRIENDS!

When my sky digibox went down just outside of warranty i was quoted about £70.00 for a replacement. I very firmly told them that it was not my problem that i couldn't view the sky TV i had paid for. They said it was, I said:
"ok then cancel my subscription as I am not that bothered about sky anyway"

Magically they then decided that they would replace the box free of charge.

the moral of this is that no-one should need the extra insurance as if its within 1st 12 months they fix it, if it is outside of 1st 12 months you are outside of your min contract and can threaten to leave.

Sky however will try it on with anyone who is willing to take it lying down. Whenever they ring me up asking to sell me insurance i say to them "now why would i want to do that?"

I do agree with you that their pressure selling is bad. No reputable customer focussed company should be resorting to this!

Actually you can't do this unless the sibling has a different name to you, registers at a different address, and pays from a bank account with a surname different to yours :)

Using a different bank account is no problem.

I am about to move out, it is in my name, so parents could get new connection in their name at existing address, And I could get new one in my name at my new address.

I had the same problem. Box went bang, they said it would cost, I said I would cancel, out they came with a brand new (not recon) box and did not even hold me to another 12 month contract

Sky tried to get me to pay for insurance, when I first joined. the person on the other end of the phone told me that if my box went wrong then I would have to pay to get it fixed. I t6old her that I would not and that the box and instalation is covered for 12 months and if it goes wrong after that, then I will just cancel and go back to my normal T.V

IIRC, for multiroom at least, it's £99 per year.

    I'd rather risk it, since I can buy a brand-new Sky+ box for £160 ! :)

I got my sky service in Dec 04. They they told me the box was mine after 3 months, and was responsible for the repairs. I just ignored it because sky boxes are 10 a penny... then they called me in march this year asking for me to take out insurance 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE!!!!!

They really try and push it don't they!

    Gareth.

My mate have had Sky for 4 years now using a Pansonic box and he have never had sky phone him, he phoned them a few times to downgrade his packages and he well be phoneing them again come September to downgrade to two or four mixes,

I got this call a while ago, the woman on the other end tried to tell me that if my Sky+ box blew up it would cost me £300 to get a replacement.

My reply was "£300!, your being ripped off love, I can get you them for £160 if you want" :D

Dont know about now but 5 years ago I worked in a BT 3rd party call centre selling Sky extended warrenty to sky subscribers.

The product was pulled for a short while after I left (or so I was told) because of the number of issues which were occuring. 1) in the call centre the changed what was covered and what wasnt on a daily basis but if your team leader was away you didnt get the brief so everyone answered in very vague avoid the question manor 2) commission was absolutaly :censored: and you only got the commission if people either paid by credit card or added it to their existing direct debit - no commission if people asked for you to send a new DD mandate out. A number of people were sacked because they were adding it to the existing DD when the cust had asked for a mandate instead.

The unfortunate thing was that not working for sky we only had the info they gave us and they sold the product reasonably well to us :D but I have no idea if reality is anything like what they said or whether they do tend to do reps for free or at minimal cost to keep people these days as others on here say they do
