Can't justify expense of a scaler but can anyone offer some advice, through experience, as to whether i can get an improved picture for my TV source (in this case SKY+) by using the PC input on my Hitachi 42PD3000 plasma? Looking for improvement with the holy grail of good plasma picture quality i.e football!

    Any help much appreciated

Can't think of a way of using the PC input without a scaler or a PC. It's a real PC input, it does not accept video signals.

MAW is right, you can't even us one of the JS Technology VGA converters as the Hitcahi VGA input doesn't support the relevent (vertical I think) frequencies.

Thanks for the replies. At least that puts a stop to me puzzling over the idea!

Any advice on how to achieve a better picture using other methods?

Is a scaler the only way to go?

I have wondered about a component converter but not convinced this will offer a discernible difference (currently use a quality QED scart cable). In any case would a converter be the best option, if i was to explore this route, or should i utilise the component up conversion of my Denon 3805 receiver?

    Thanks for your time

I had a 3000 prior to the 5300 and, to be honest, always thought that the Sky+ pic was very good on the higher bitrate channels. Football seems to show most plasmas at their worst and on some channels (ITV being the worst offenders) can look awful. Sky Sports tends to be OK though.

What do you think of the 5200 in comparison to the 3000?
I'm actually considering(tentatively!) changing for a Pioneer panel if i can do it relatively cheaply. Do you know of any dealers that do a part ex?

I'd say there is very little, if any, difference in the performance between the two screens.
