BeThere 24mb - Good or bad?

i'd also be interested to know people's experience with BeThere - my exchange has just been enabled and i am thinking of changing my isp since my current one is having big problems - in particular i am interested in finding out if there are any latency issues - at peak times with my current isp i can be well in excess of 250ms which renders online gaming nigh on impossible.

Most problems with Be are the 3 month notice to cancel and if you can support the speeds which a lot of people will get around same as they would on MAX service.

I signed up less than a month ago and get 17mb down and 1.3mb up... I am so chuffed with that.

There was a few days delay in the activation but it was worth the wait... The BeBox is ok, but the wireless part didn't hold the connection as well as my Linksys box, so I just plugged that into the BeBox and use that for wireless.

So your saying most people outside of London get a low speed connection? That's a big generalisation!!!

Not really most people that dont live in the big cities dont get the speeds because of old cabling and only few exchanges are in place so a big distnace is only covered by one exchange.

Take Northampton for example largest town in UK few exchanges around follow cable route even if close to exchange will only get speeds like 8mb max because of how the cable is layed out.

Thats understandable. On Max I got 6.5mb download and don't live in a big city. I live in a village outside of Derby... the exchange is quite close by though, 450m as the crow flies!

The thing is, although i'm not getting the best I can from Be, I am still getting 17mb download speeds so its better than the 6.5mb on Max... On a decent site, I can download a 700mb file in 35mins...

You should be able to download 700 Megabytes quicker than that from a decent site on 17Mb, under 6 minutes if my calculations are correct...

17Mb/8 = 2.125 Megabytes per second transfer speed...

700/2.125 = 329 seconds /60 = 5.48 minutes.

Lucky get!

You sure thats right? At 17 Mbps you should leech a 700 MB file in less than 5 mins. It takes me 6-8mins for 350 MB/12-16mins for 700 MB.

And I'm on 8 Mbps Max RADSL.

Just so people are aware, I live in the Northampton Area (weston favell exchange actually) live about 1.5km from the exchange and get 1.3mb upload and 12mb download, so its not all doom and gloom!! Been signed up to BE for about a month now and all is good (much better than eclipse!!)

Is anyone in London with Be?

I am currently with Nildram, and am happy, but could do with faster speeds! :smashin:

I have checked the new adslguide.org site and the comparison is very similar and they show good support, reliability etc.

Any help would be appreciated before i migrate!

On the two occasions I have contacted support, they have been very helpful and have kept me up to date with any info. As with all companies, you have to do a bit of chasing but I am currently extremely happy with Be.

If you migrated over, how long did it take, it says on their site it could take upto 3 weeks!!!

I did migrate from Seriously Internet, whom I was pretty happy with, but like yourself wanted a faster connection! :smashin:

After I got my MAC Code from Seriously which took a couple of days, I placed the order with Be on the 23/11. Next day my order was accepted with a planned activation of 4/12. My BeBox modem was sent 30/11 and received on 4/12. On this day my Seriously connection stopped working...

Sadly, the MAC code provided wasn't recognised by BT or something so after a couple of days messing around in my exchange, it finally got activated on 8/12! Super quick as well...

Was a bit annoyed on Christmas day as something went wrong in the exchange and this lasted until the Wednesday after Boxing day but it was sorted that day! Thankfully I was out socialising so didn't really miss it.

Apart from that, its been great. Request your MAC code from Nildram!!!

I went from F2S to be in london and i cant fault them at all and the speeds are great not just the download but the upload as well. the only issue in the future is what O2 will do with be as thy now own the company .....

Right then! I have requested my MAC code from nildram the other day. Someone has advised me that the router that you get with Be* does not have the best wireless capability when you enable encyption. What i wanted to know is can i still use my old linksys router which is capable of ADSL2+?

I asked the guy at Be and he seemed to think it would be ok, but he was part of the sales team and not technical so he could be just having me on. I have also been told that you can lose speed with other brands of router.

Is the above info correct, and please could others advice what router they are using?

Thanks! :D
