Question Best way to share monitor, keyboard and scanner to 2 computers

I have a nice desktop setup with a document scanner, keyboard and mouse all connected to my desktop pc. I have just purchased a surface pro 3 and dock so would like this to also be used with the same equipment.

Other than unplugging everything every time is there a more elegant solution to this?

A KVM Switch. They do generally come with monitor switching too so you might find a USB-only switch to be cheaper but they're not a particularly common item.

Seconded. I've used very similar to the one in the link above, no audio on mine, for several years. I can switch from the work laptop to my own desktop, meaning only one keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
