I am wanting to convert some old vhs tapes onto dvd-r. I think I have two ways of doing this.
1/ connect vhs player to tosh xs32
    or
2/ connect vhs player to canon 730i camcorder to convert into digital and then from camcorder to tosh via firewire

Does anyone know which will produce the best quality recordings ?

    Many thanks

Well either way you are starting with a low quality composite source so I doubt it will make much difference wich way you do it.
If you want to spend some time experimenting then why not capture 5 minutes from each of your methods and burn to a disk and see which one looks best.
