    Hello there!!!

I want to change my old 28"CRT. Viewing details: 3 to 3,5 meters away from TV. Mainly Standard definition and some DVDs. Thinking of upgrading my satellite receiver (Technomate 1500CI+) to watch a few HD channels. I have heard that 1080 would make SD picture worse

I think a 32" would be enough (TV quite close) but would consider 37". Looking to spend a maximum of £500. Also, is LCD or plasma better for SD broadcast?

    Cheers lads

    Thanks Nielo!!

What about 720p. 1080i and 1080p? As you can see I am no expert but here some say that 720 is better to watch SD than 1080. Also that a 37" full HD (1080 p) will make SD picture worse. Any truth?

All the ones I've posted are 720p and 768p models.

generally speaking 1080p can make SD worse unless you spend a lot of money on it, at 37" it's not worse the hassle, even if you do watch a lot of HD content. Plasma is better for SD as mentioned above, those panasonics (mainly the 347PX80) are top, if you wanted a 32" then you could also consider the LG 32PG6000, some people are convinced that the SD PQ on it is better than the PX80 (you probably wont notice the difference but its a 32" (and cheaper) alternative - LG 32PG6000 32" Plasma TV - Gloss Black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo - that will provide a slightly higher risk of IR (not a problem if youre not a hardcore gamer) but (apparently) suffers less from phosphor trailing than the PX80s, although I dont notice that much on gaming anyway, as for on SD it never really comes up at all

I have the Panasonic 37PX80 though and its great (on SD and HD) and thats an understatement really, you wont go wrong with it
