    Philips 32PW9618

If you can still find one under £1,000 that is.

Picture is better than the Pixel Plus 2 models, and lots of connections.

I failed to see what so good about the picture on the 32ZP48.

After having read all the rave reviews in the magazines I expected something very special, but instead it looks no better than any average TV.

It just goes to show that you really need to see the TV working before making that final decision.

Everyone has their own opinion on what makes a good picture. Some prefer the processed look, while others prefer their 'retro' 50Hz models.

I spent quite some time searching around for a CRT TV, getting shops to hook up a DVD player so that I could compare the quality of picture on different models rather than basing it upon the distributed feed. The top of the range Sony, Philips and Panasonic models were all very good but the Toshiba just edged it in my opinion. The colour definition, blacks and depth of field are marvellous. The added bonuses with the Toshiba were 5.1 sound and overall size.

Everyone will have their own opinion and yes some people may prefer 50Hz to 100Hz but until you watch a DVD on one of the 100Hz CRT TVs that have additional Digital processing (such as Active Vision, Pixel Plus or Acuity) you don't know what your missing.

Is it fine to play PS2 games on the Toshiba 32ZP48, without wrecking anything?

Must say that I have always been very happy with my Panasonic TX32PD30 which you can easily pick up for sub £1000 these days.

People seemed to have problems with the earlier batches but 6 months on I have had nothing but praise to say for it

I think that is the Thomson model in the UK.

The 643 got a very good write up, and was available from Unbeatable, but was out of stock a week or two ago.
