Any opinions on the best cover /protection and speakers to get for an IPOD - we have an ordinary 40GB one and a mini one - Thanks.

Best speakers - the Bose SoundDock I guess. However, best means expensive too...

Try the Altec Lansing InMotion set up. Very portable and good sound. Just right for taking on holiday with an iPod instead of a CD player. JBL are supposed to be very good, but not as portable. See reviews at http://www.ipodlounge.com/

There are loads of great speakers for the ipod....Checkout this "portable" speakers gallery to see what's out there....

These are not ipod-specific but I love these:

Cases? definitely the iSkin range (4th gen ipods need the evo2 - make sure you get the case specific to your model capacity as thickness varies). I've got the aqua glow in the dark one (from microanvika £20). Comes with screen protector.

To protect the trackpad/clickwheel get an iPoDonut (£6ish from http://www.everythingipod.co.uk), aso glows and gives the pad a nice "paper" feel that I find nicer to use:
