    Hello everyone,

I am new here and also pretty new to the Home Cinema scene so I would really appreciate a professional opinion by the more experienced people in here as to how I should complete my current setup.

I have a Yamaha DSPAX 620 AV receiver and a Pioneer DV-636 DVD player (not exactly stellar components but that is what I can afford right now). All I need now to complete the system is a full complement of speakers, front rear, center and sub. With a budget of around £400-£500 and plenty of space (keeping in mind I don't really mind aesthetics, I only want the best sound for the money even if they are the ugliest boxes on the block), what would be my best speaker options for this setup?

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Im in same boat as you at the minute having just got a DSP630 amp and am now trying to decide on speakers.
With your budget i would be tempted by the Mordaunt Avant package but i am thinking of the Mordaunt Premier PLus package.
    Good luck with your selection.

Well, I will go by whatever the pros in here think is best; I am open to all good suggestions.

I had a Yamaha DSPAX620 a few years ago and it's a very capable amp, my brother has it now and he loves it.
If i had a budget of around £400 my first demo would be the Canton CD1 followed by the Mordant Short Premier Plus, i suspect both would suite your amp perfectly. I am a big Mordant Short fan and still love my MS20i pearl speakers i've had for an age so i would tend to lean on the Premier Plus package.
I would suggest you demo them yourself and see which you prefer as buying blind isn't a good way to go as i have found out myself.

Heard the Mordaunt Premier package to-day and liked the sound of them.
My only worry would be as im thinking of putting them in a room measuring 18'FT X 12'FT would they still be able to cope with this sort of room size?

Wow, thank you so much everyone. So kind of you to help. Hmm...the packages Horny Dragon suggested look good but I seem to be liking the set that Dfour proposed more. Unfortunately, I have to go on advice, as I can't hear them playing; I have no access to any of these where I live.

Try to get a demo of the Monitor Audio Bronze B2 package - they might be just above your budget, but have a look around for some deals.

HCC gave them a favorable review just a couple of months ago.

As I said, I don't mind how the speakers look; if truth be told, the bigger the brutes, the better. I am just interested in extreme sound quality for the budget at hand. I just left the UK, I'm in Malta right now, coming back to the UK in December (I visit the UK regularly, around every three months).

Shipping should not be a problem; I have shipped from the UK before with no difficulty. Err...gragh, I am itching to get a set of good speakers, I really don't want to wait till Christmas!!

Sniper, could you please give me a Monitor Audio Bronze B2 review page for me to look at? Who carries this package at a good price?

Also, does anyone have an opinion about Eltax Symphony front and Eltax Liberty centre Speakers? I have been offered a second hand set and I was wondering if they would be a worthwhile buy.

    Orrajt!
    :) :) :)

And yes a LOT cheaper; don't want to pay good money to thieves any more. I haven't bought anything from here in a long time and I don't intend to either. I'll give my money to people in the UK who respect me as a good customer not to people here who want to fleece me everytime I walk into their shop.

Sevenoaks lists Monitor Audio Bronze B2 speakers at £199.95, although I think that is only for the two front speakers and not for the whole set.

Incidentally, if anyone has a good set of speakers to offer (as long as they are in pristine condition) do please let me know. If the offer is good, I'll take it. I need a full complement - front, surrounds, center, and sub. It doesn't have to be a full set from just one person either; I will take the best offers from different people if necessary.

    Thank you everyone.

That is an amazing price for the Symphony 6.3's!!!

I used to have the original Symphony 6's, and they were fantastic!! Paid £199 when they first came out.

    These are a bargain!!!!

Hyperfi tend to advertise great prices, but if you look very carefully, they state that many of the items at special prices are ex demo only.

By the time you ring them, they have miraculously been sold, yet, the following month, the same items are still advertised  :nono:

Terrible company to deal with imho.

Good luck in trying to get their advertised prices.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, I have had nothing but bad experiences with hyperfi. Avoid.
