Best small satellite speakers

Hi all,

I have recently changed my lounge around big time and I am looking for a set of minimal speakers as my current set of speakers (Mission M300) are too big. What speakers do people recommend? I am looking for a 5.1 setup.

I have done a search through the forums and there are many many posts, but cant find one where people are looking purely for small satellite speakers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Looking to buy pretty soon.

Cheers
Steve

Depends on your budget but for:

Below £100
Yamaha NSP110 - basic but ok for the price - better sound available for not much more.

Below £300.
Tannot SFX5.1

£500-ish
Quad L-ites
Q acoustic 1010i
Kef 2005

£700-ish
Kef 3005
MJ Xenos
Tannoy arena lites

£1000-ish
Kef 3005SE

See what appeals visually and within you budget then go listen

I definately agree with Flexo the Jamo A102 HSC5 are awesome for their size.

About 4" Cubed and very discreet.

And a wonderful sound.

Can I also suggest Bose AM15. You can get them for about £1000 with cables and wall mounts included. Once properly setup and caliberated, they give you decent clear and detailed sound with good low if not the earth shattering low....low enough to shake my furniture & doors and make my neighbors complain (live in a semi). For a casual living room experience with mostly music playing in background and watching movie over weekends, I bet they do a good sounding - smart looking job. However for music they sound decent if played with Dolby Pro Logic Music on...otherwise in stereo only they sound crap. I guess that would be a problem with any sub sat system.

Last but not the least, it also guarantee you a place in the hotspot for discussions. At one end will be audiophiles looking down upon you and bashing you for wasting your money. On the other end would be your friends and family complimenting you for a wise purchase of unobtrusive nice sounding solution.

All the best!

Another suggestion for the Acoustimass Series from Bose...

Spot where I've got mine... there's 4 in the picture... 1 centre, left and right a sub!

They just blend in and the sound is more than acceptable to me and some reviews that I read before I got them.... Forum members here though sound (pun?) biased against them though... Have a listen before you decide...

Hey mate

I was looking for something similar about 6 months ago, and went with the DAV-IS10, small efficient and powerful enough..check them out on the sony website, better still go to your local sony centre

M&K Xenons are excellent and pretty much unbeatable for HC use, I have also been impressed with the Anthony Gallo Nucleus Ti which are almost as small as the Bose and sound much better (I own both).

Anyone here waiting for Badbob to predictably appear on here and slag off Bose? *yawn*

I have the Tannoys, which are essentially the slightly older version of the SFX 5.1 set up. I'm happy with them for movies, although I've got upgrade fever and am trying to think of ways for SWMBO to agree with me :D

They are discreet, powerful when needed and you can get em dirt cheap now. Not ideal for music, and the stereo performance for 2.0 soundtracks is a bit weak, but apart from that a great first buy

HAHA is he the guy who does this all the time? I've seen some posts from some1 some time ago and almost all posts were mostly about how bad bose is and how stupid the people spending their money for bose systems are :p

I think there are many people who make posts like that all the time; and for good reason. I wish I had read some before I bought mine but I am not sure this forum was even around then :)

Bose aren't completely dreadfull, they just don't do treble or bass, are over-hyped and overpriced. :D

Hey but they are small so that is ok ;)

I give up, where is the centre ?? :D

To the right of the teracotta wotsit, set back a bit from the others, to the left and just behind the PS3 controller?

In my experience the bottom end of the scale for 'hand-held' speaker award would go to Jamo A102 HCS5 at £185 very decent. For mid-range I would say the Anthony Gallo Micros at £800 and top end BOSE

sike  The top-end would go to a bigger speaker

I have the Jamo A102's and have a friend who owns a Bose set up.

I've listen to both and so has he, and especially to me they sound pretty much the same.

If you include my Onkyo 605 he spent close on £500 more then me and I personally don't think it's worth the extra.

My vote goes for the Canton range, they have some fantastic small speakers and also available in 5.1 packages. I'm biased mind you as I'm running Canton's ;) There's a power buy on the forum, top of the speaker main page...

The absence of any sort of budget guideline makes it hard to answer.

I like the Martin Logan Fresco i's (see sig), but they're rather more expensive than most of the others mentioned here. They are worth it though.
