best sky output?

    as a relative beginner i need some advice.i have one of the first pace digital sky recievers.can i get digital sound output from it as it appears to be analogue at the rear.if not is there a skybox on the market that will give me digital sound?

    Only Sky + will give you Dolby Digital 5.1.
    I believe there is a Sony box that has a stereo digital out (and therefore Nicam), but I doubt if it will be any better than your existing analog stereo.

    will the sky+box be obsolete when they bring in hi def next year?

    Nope.
    The standard digital service is not going to be affected, it will be around for years to come.
    Of course if you get SKY+ HD it's highly likely that you can ditch an existing SKY+ since the new STB will be able to receive and record both HD and SD content.
