    Okay,

it seems to be understood that John Lewis is generally the best retailer to ultimately purchase a TV from, with the free delivery and 5 yr guarantee and all.

However, they will only pricematch shops with walk-in premises.

So, when phoning round, what shops are the best to get a cheap quote from. These generally tend to be independent retailers that you only hear about by word of mouth - hence the thread.

Two shops I've found to be quite good are:

    http://www.hispek.co.uk

    http://www.electrocentre.com
(although when JL phoned this lot up the stuck £50 extra on the in-shop price they quoted me)

TVandVideodirect had some Sonys in their Bolton showroom when I visited, but don't think they are very big on Sony sales.

www.krishav.co.uk worked for me - JL did the Sony KV32FX68 WEGA for £739 as a result.

I'm thinking about getting a Panasonic TX32PS12 with stand - Does anyone know if JL will pricematch (and if so which branch) against Techtronics (which seem to be the cheapest at the moment)?

    Cheers

If they have a bricks and mortar shop, and the TV isn't in any sale or part of a special offer then no reason why not.

JL don't care if the TV is in a sale: provided it's not part of a special offer, and it's new boxed stock, they'll match.

doesn't a sale count as a special offer then?

They seemed to think it did when I used them a couple of weeks back....

By a special offer I mean a package deal. If it's just a reduction on (say) 32FX68s down £200 then they should match it. If it's a case of a TV, VCR, and DVD (like the Tosh Picture frame package offered around a lot at the moment), then they MIGHT match the whole package, but they certainly wouldn't just reduce the TV.

Also JL insist that the product is 'in stock', this usually means either in store or in warehouse/depot and deliverable within 2-10 days (depending on the store and also the dept manager - they sometimes have more power than you may think to do special deals!) In addition as Im sure you all know, the products must be exactly the same - especially when it comes to matching packages - so if (for example) Comet have got some cheap VCR's from Sony and they change the model number by even 1 digit, then it isnt the same product, even though it is if you know what I mean?!?
