I'm after a scrolling shooter for my NDS.

Something of the ilk of 1942, R-Type, Gradius, Tiger Heli, etc.

    Any recommendations apprecated.

Nanostray is DIRT cheap and fits the bill exactly. Personally I think its rubbish but its the only game that fits the bill

I cant recommend Astro boy - Omega Factor for GBA enough tho

Its an excellent platformer with side scrolling shooter levels as well. Got mine brand new (and Real !) for 8 quid off fleabay, the guys had loads of them

I saw some screens of Nanostray 2 the other day, they did look pretty good and it looks as though they've switched to side scrolling this time around which will probably be more favourable to most.

Disagree about Nanostray, its far from "rubbish".
I think the game's excellent but only if you're playing the JAP version.

On the PAL & US game you have to use the touch screen to switch weapons & it spoils the game a bit imo. Having to fiddle with the touch screen when theres bullets & enemies flying about is pretty annoying & will definitely lead to some deaths.
The JAP version allows you to switch weapons using the X button which is much better.

edit: Jap version can be had from www.japanvideogames.com Reliable site, used them myself for my copy.
Or do searches on ebay for either Dansyaku or Danshaku

Also i find the game far more enojoyable to play on the DS Phat. The Lites d-pad really isnt very good at all for a game where you'll be using diagonals often.

The scoring system is pretty good & the game generates a code for your high scores which can be used on the online world rankings table on the official site.

Still one of the best looking & sounding games on the DS aswell.

Its your only choice of scrolling shooter on the DS at the moment anyway unless you include the ones available on GBA. Nanostray 2 is looking really good aswell though & there others such as Raid Over The River (if it ever comes out).

you could buy 'Konami Classics Series - Arcade Hits' and play Scramble for some retro scrolling shooter action!
