just got a 42" panasonic plasma pH9. had my heart set on getting an OPPO 981 DVD player but after doing a few searches, i found on AVSFORUM that some were saying the combination of:

    OPPO+Panasonic plasma = macroblocking

so maybe the OPPO for me isn't worth the $230 + $60 shipping.

would any of you have any suggestions for a decent progressive DVD player (Pioneer 490S for example?) with HDMI (my component is taken up by the cable box) for my PH9 to hold me over until HD DVD/Bluray is more economical?

    many thanx!!!

I was in a similar situation. Not wanting to splash too much on a dvd that will last until the HD waters are somewhat more clear. I picked up a Sony NS76 DVD from John lewis, ex-display for £79. Great bit of kit for that money!

    I run a Denon 2900 with a PH8 - cracking picture via component.

They are build like a tank and originally cost about £900 new but you should be able to pick one up in the classifieds for about £200
