Have decided to add some of the must own games from the PS one era to my 300+ PS2 , Xbox and GC collection.

Am really looking for games that would be rated at least 9/10 i.e truely collectable games only.

So far have come up with:

    Metal Gear Solid 1
    Final Fantasy 7
    Final Fanatsy 8
    Final Fantasy 9
    Vagrant Story

Can anyone else suggest other truely classic games I am missing.
(No Resident Evil as I already have the 6 games on the GC).

    Thanks

Tekken 2 my favourite of the series.
Chrono Cross you should look out for, but you'll need a device or disk that'll run NTSC software.
Final Fantasy Tactics is a classic too, but also NTSC.
Front Mission 3 (Shining Force like strategy RPG with mechs)
Xenogears is worth a look at.
    Micro Machines 3 is fun
    Wip3out
    Abe's Exodus
    Final Fantasy 1 and 2
    Final Fantasy 4 and 5
Final Fantasy 6 ( I think Chrono Trigger comes with it aswell in some packs)
Gran Turismo 1 or 2. 2 has more options and cars but runs slower and has more bugs.
The first Toshinden is very simple - think Street Fighter 2 era gameplay, but it's fun.
Rayman 1 - rock hard platformer.

Not sure why you would want Metal gear solid as the GC version is alot better.
As for the Final fantasy games FF7 is great but the others are average at best all graphics and no substance - Square have made far better games than these.

    My personal favs...
Final fantasy tactics - Squares best game
    Xenogears - Squares 2nd best
Front mission 3 - superb but very long
Kagero - Deception 2 - Great idea and plays really well
Persona 1+2 - superb rpg's, very original and full of hidden bits, diff endings etc.
Exhumed - very impressive FPS alot of fun.
Ehrgeiz - Another great Square game a awesome Fighter/Rpg
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - the best ever castlevania game.
Luna silver star story + Luna Eternal blue - Great Rpg's (although i still prefer the Mega cd versions)
Doom and final doom - Great conversions with some awesome music.
Einhander - another great game from Square, great shooter with some impressive graphics.

Panzer Front, because games like this are rare on any console and I love this genre. Its also a pretty rare title if you are into collecting. The software house which made it is no longer around so its out of production !

Is X-Com the sequel/remaked of UFO: Enemy Unknown? I had that for the Amiga, I wish I spent more time with it though.

Civilization 2 is on the PS1 too. I haven't played it, but if it's faithful to the PC versions it should be a good buy.

I remember it being pretty awful with the standard controller, but played great with the optional mouse.

    Syndicate Wars.
    Sheep.
Tenchu 1 (apart from the fogging really is tight even compared to 2 and 3).
Street Fighter Collection 2 (NTSC version).

People have already added MGS1 and Vagrant Story, i'd have to check my PS1 games to see what else i saved in last gens traansition.

I cannot believe nobody has come up with THE ultimate PS one game.

I will never forget the one game that made me buy the PS one as I was memorised watching the demo in my local game store, the graphics took us into the new century and to which all others aspired too. I bought it and the ps one instantly.

It didnt dissapoint on the game play too, involved, tranced, scared, excited, overjoyed, angery, peeved -- no other game has matched it since. The game was the talk in my workplace, How did you solve that? where did you go to get that, help??

    The game ..................Tomb raider.

    need I say more?

Tombraider ( i totally agree with the earlier post, as much as I hate the recent versions the original was stunning)

castlevania SOTN(the best 2d platformer full stop. If only konami would stop making naff 3d versions)

Rage racer(one of the first to introduce upgradable cars)

oh dear liverpool are 1-0 down

There was a first person shooter called Exhumed. A very atmospheric game based around old egyiption ledgends.

    Here Here

    What have Eidos done?

I was a massive Tomb Raider fan, the most recent (well and a few before), are pants utter pants.

Can't even control the damn thing and they have made simple progress so hard (impossible without cheat magazine maps) the game play is lost.

    RIP Lora :(

    PS Liverpool are coming back.

To confirm some of the above options I would recommend

Final Fantasy Tactics - The best FF game IMO, yup I played it a lot more than 7!
All the other final fantasy games :)
Wipeout 2097 - The best in the Wipeout series as far as I am concerned.
    Einhander
    Vagrant Story
    Xenogears
    Tenchu
    Front Mission 3
    Castlevania

I wouldn't bother with the X-Com games, I used to play them because I didn't have a PC, but you cannot save mid mission, this can be annoying when it takes up to an hour for one mission. Terror from the deep is even worse as it has the double missions and they take over 2 hours!

    Ok thanks folks.

    Have now got:

Metal Gear Solid 1 (Have GC version as well).
    FF7
    FF8
    FF9
    Tombraider 1
    Tombraider 2
    Tombraider 3
    Tombraider 4
    Tombraider 5
    Syphon Filter 1
    Syphon Filter 2
    Syphon Filter 3
    Parasite Eve 2
    Tenchu 1
    Tenchu 2
    Silent Hill
    Dino Crisis 1
    Dino Crisis 2
    Driver 1
    Driver 2
    Galerians
Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 (Collectors Box)

    Still looking for:
    Vagrant Story,
    Front Mission 3
Medal of Honour 1 and 2
Breath of Fire 3 and 4
    Wild Arms 1 and 2
    Grandia
    Star Ocean 2
    Suikoden 1 and 2
    Alundra 1 and 2
    Vandal Hearts 1 and 2
and Castlevania (Symphony of the night)

although the latter will prob be difficult to get due to price (I am not not paying more than £7 delivered for these PS1 games).

Not keen on Driving games nor non pal games as none of my systems are modded. Why didnt they release Chrono Cross, Xenogears and Parasite Eve 1 in the UK I do not know especially as they were very good games and therefore likely to sell.

One of the best PS1 games IMO is R-Types (the game is pretty rare though) - perfect conversions of R-Type 1 & 2 which are probably still my fave shoot em ups (especially R-Type 1), at least on a par if not better (IMO) than a lot of treasures stuff (and believe me I rate treasures stuff very highly). Infact it's a shame that Treasure didn't release any original games on the PS1 with the only release in this country being Silhouette Mirage which was a port of a reasonable Saturn game.

    Other great PS1 games include:

    - Gran Trurismo 2 - the Best GT game
    - Quake 2 - great shooter especially on multiplayer
    - ISS Pro Evolution Soccer 2 - The best PS1 game full stop IMO (although the PS2/XBox/PC PES 4 is the best version overall)
    - Wipeout 2097 - Not as good as Wipout Pure on the PSP but better than all of the other Wipeouts.

Hey ukbondraider are you seriuosly gonna play those games or are you just gonna keep them for your collection? If your gonna play them the final fantasy games alone will take most of this year (asuming you work, eat, sleep etc).
Anyway if you don't mind my curiosity are you gonna collect games as a hobby and put em in cases etc. I cant remember if it was one of the posts here that had a photo of a game fanatics room, chocabolck full of retro games.
If you are collecting classics rather than playing them then i would suggest some of the first released games such as ridge racer, tekken and wipeout. These are the original ps1 games that made it all happen (i mean historically as gameplaywise all were bettered by their sequels)

drskhaled , yes I am just collecting them, dont ask me why but I just feel the urge to do so. I guess I am just making up for the time when I went without as a kid. Have worked hard since am now in a terrific job that pays well so I guess a few quid here and there doesnt affect me anymore.

As for playing the games, I might play them if and when I get the time but since the last game I played to the full was Metal Gear Sons of Liberty when it first came out I doubt that will be very soon.

I just enjoy having the option there if I decide to do so.

I know they did a version for the Dreamcast as well but Japanese only :( Still playable though but its extremely hard to get hold of :(

As I said before if you are into collecting then Panzer Front for the PS1 is a good title as the manufacture who made it no longer exists.
