    Room has no light
    Screen will be 100-110" diag
    In a room of 20ft x 13ft
    New please

Have B&W Speakers, Yamaha AMP, REL Sub, Pioneer LD, Sony DVD.

Have looked at Greyhawk for a screen if I go for LCD.

Have seen Sony 11 on Greyhawk, looked good, on a white screen I was unhappy with blacks.

    Would like better if poss.

I got a second hand Barco Graphics 808 CRT. It gives deep dark blacks with plenty of detail when driven by my Radeon equipped PC.

The advantages of the CRT are True Blacks, picture quality, tube life.

Dissadvantages are Size, permanent installation needs a scaller or HTPC to get the best from it.

If you don't want to upset partner then you may well need somethig smaller.

Further comment from Nicks post. If you want the best picture quality go for CRT. If you want compromise then go for a digital projector. I also have a BarcoGraphics 808s. I also got a 12 month warranty with it which is the same as you would get for a new projector. You should not be put off by the words secondhand or refurbished. If you buy from a reputable dealer then the bits that get worn i.e tubes and power supply are replaced with new anyway.
It honestly does not look that big on the ceiling, in fact my wife says that if we ever split up she will be keeping it

Agreed, once up it isn't too bad, a bit of a shock when I helped carry it in though £70-odd KG's and a metre long!

One good thing about Barcos is their build quality, they are commercial units and are made to last. Tubes will last upwards of 15,000 hours, mine is older than that and still looks great!

Even a smaller Barco would be good, the 708's are a lot smaller and will give great pictures with built in line doubling.

The main problem with all projectors is fan noise, if you watch a lot of quiet films it is a consideration. Roland at B4 is cirrently testing a fan mod that will go into all his Recons or retrofit to any other pj I believe.

    Roland, hope you are well.

I'm still very happy with the BarcoData 808s you supplied and installed 2.5 months ago.

Can I ask how you are getting on with the fan mod testing? I'm looking for perfection!

    thanks,
    Rob.

Rob I will give you a call a bit later. I need a local guinea pig:cool:
