    Hi everyone,

i'm new to the forums and i've decided to get my first projector!
It will be going in my bedroom and i will be using it for games (xbox), and dvds.
the only one i've really found with good reviews is the Epson TW10H.

Are there any others i should consider in this price range?

Also would you recommend waiting 'till after christmas...Is it likely there will be a significant drop in the price of projectors?

    many thanks

    Hi :hiya:

Fankly for that money I think the Epson is the only one worth looking at, unless there's one I've missed everything else up to that price will be designed for data presentation use rather than watching DVDs.

A price drop after Christmas would be unlikely I think, new models are released at this time of year, starting September or so, which means last year's models have been discounted while thins year's are now brand new, so unless a retailer needs to drum up business I don't think we'll see markedly cheaper prices come January.

    Hi :hiya:

I'm probably gonna get it from dabs or technoworld.

I'd check that it's not available at a dedicated Home Cinema e-tailer round here for a similar price, if you have problems it's usually better to be dealing with someone who specialises in this type of equipment .. and some can be as cheap as places like Dabs in my experience.

projector will be 2.4 mtres away from the screen and i will be sitting 2.7 metres away from the screen. On the projection calculator it said it should be 79" diag. 69" horiz. and 39 vertically from 2 metres with the zoom to the max. I would have the zoom upto 1.2.

You should be at least 3 feets behind the projector to not see any chicken wires, but if you do you can always defocus image little bit. I have TW10H and with 80" image and sitting just 4 or 5 feets behind the PJ it´s just fine, no chicken wire or screendoor visible.

I got an Infocus X1 from ebuyer which is excellent.

They are out of stock of this now but do have an X1a at £500 - if you drive this with a progressive signal its identical to an X1.

Checkout avsforum.com for more details on the X1.

The X1 is fine as long as one isn't susceptible to rainbows, it's a DLP with a slow 2x colour wheel so more people will be affected by this model than one of the newer 4x or 5x machines.

Pixmania still has the original X1 not X1a for £598 delivered, if you use the £10 voucher off "priceuk070" or something I got from Pricerunner. I also looked at the Epson but then decided to for DLP. So far I and my wife haven't seen any rainbows...

    Hi,

Having recently bought one (a TW10H), I find it hard to imagine that you would be even slightly dissapointed with the TW10H, especially for the price,

    No rainbows,
RGB input! for added flexibility (sky box, games console...) as well as all the other usual inputs (component, VGA, Composite, S-Video)
    Native widescreen
    Theatre black mode
    Quiet
    Easy to set up
    Cheap lamps!

what else can I say, what are you waiting for?

    cheers,

    Louis

having done a bit of research and reading many great posts on this forum (arent forums great!!!) I think im heading towards an epson, guess my only initial reason for not considering it was maybe a little mistaken brand snobbery!!

now its time to find somewhere around north london that will give me a demo of it just to make sure i like it!!

From the above im assuming there is now else worth considering in the same price range>?!!

additional question, how much worse is the picture likely to be, if i project directly onto a smooth painted wall (either white or very light cream i think) Will be getting a screen eventually but will the wall suffice initially? thank you all.
