    Cheers!:)

    I need your advice on this:

    I need a Pal Progressive Scan player: What should i do:
    Please consider::confused:
    1) I have an Arcam DV88 and i can upgrade to DV88P but its £450;
    2) there are a lot of great players coming out(eg. Sony 999ES );
    3) Currently i use my Arcam as a CD source also, so if i switch it
    for other player it should be as good in audio;
    3) If I upgrade the Arcam it would be a £1500 player -is it worth it?

    Since the DV88+ was the first player boasting Pal Progressive all the reviews on this player that i find doesnt seem to consider other options...
    Please give you opinion.

    Thanks!

    Well if your thinking of the Pioneer 757Ai (pal prog allegedly out soon) I can tell you it's a cracking DVD player, but absolutely dire as a CD player, not a patch on my 400 quid rega planet.

    Arcam DV88P and AV88 Plus (often called DV88+) are two different players. DV88P is a DV88 with a Silicon Image progressive scan board, and is therefore similar to original DV27. DV88+ and DV27+ and DV89 use a different chipset. Upgrading a DV88 to a DV89 is the biggest jump and most expensive (£650); but you should be able to upgrade your DV88 to either a DV88P (£350) or DV88+ (£400). All those players are PAL progressive compatible, except original DV88.

    Although you didn't specifically mention it as an option, what about introducing a standalone deinterlacer, something like the Iscan Ultra for example?

    These are currently available for around £550 from some retailers and it would mean you could make any of your other sources progressive scan as well.

    Just a thought.

    That's a thought!

    I've had one of these since they first came out -- for doing exactly that with all my interlaced sources (eveything except DV27+). Results are excellent.

    I've even run the DV27 interlaced output though it, and it's not that much worse but has the chroma bug removed. (iScan Ultra has a chroma filter and will get rid of chroma bug from any DVD player.)

    Thanks people for your opinions!:p

    Right now im considering just 2 solutions:

    1) Upgrade from DV88 to DV88P (since e dont care for DVD-A)
    (wy didn´t Arcam go with SACD?:( )

    2) Switching my DV88 for a new player that can handle cd replay
    with the same quality - I saw a Sony NVP-999ES (i think thats the right model) and altough it was gold (ouch) it looked kind of cool but i dont know how the CD replay from that player sound...

    Maybe i wait a couple of monthd for other options?

    Just to add that if you were to pursue the offboard deinterlacer, then you could retain your current player, along with its CD playback abilities that you like.

    A bit like having your cake and eating it! :)

    FCP, unless you have a really big screen (40-inch plus) you may not find prog scan worth the money. A lot of people on here do have such screens and therefore look on it as a necessity, but I have a 32-inch plasma and to be honest don't see an awful lot of difference. I suggest you get some demos before you dig into your pocket.
