    I am interested in purchasing an ipod from amazon.com $279.99 (around - £164 based on £1.70/$1) -

Will I be able to get this without being stung by Customs / Vat and Import Duty?

Otherwise I might wait for the mini $249.99 as a 10gb storage capacity isnt a major prerequisite for me.

    Thanks,

    GJC

I currently have a Sony MZR-909 - which I will be selling once I get an ipod...

In theory, yes you will get stung by customs for VAT & import duty.
In reality though its down to luck, but customs are getting fairly hot on capturing products entering the country by post. I know of several people ordering a couple of DVD's and getting caught for them, so an iPod is quite likely IMHO to be caught.
