Just planning ahead a bit here :) Has anyone seen a cheaper pre-order price for the Starwars espisodes 4-6 boxset than approx £22 from DVDSoon? Even with a bit of import duty that's the cheapest I've seen.

With import duty you would end up paying nearer to £30 and Amazon.co.uk are doing it for £28.99 so those 2 sites are the best places to get it from but I would go for Amazon as they wont take your money until September where as DVDSoon would take it now.

This was posted in another thread....

On anything over £18 it will be 21% (3.5 duty 17.5% vat) so it will be

so for £30 it will be

£6.30 + £4 for the post office fee

So if you get it from DVDSoon at £22 and get caught by Customs they will add on £4.62 then the Post Office Fees will be an extra £4.00 giving you a grand total of £30.62

So you are only gambling at losing £1.62 but with a chance of gaining £6.99.

    I like those odds.:D

    am trying this for myself

    heres what you do

choose email and password, enter address, and then enter card details

a email will then be sent to me confirming that an account has been created within 24hrs

seems a VERY STRANGE way of doing things - are they gonna do a credit check ?:D

Just to add, if Amazon catch you defrauding their new customer scheme, they will cancel all your accounts!

Another problem with importing a pre release could be the exchange rate at the time of delivery. Around the time of the US election, apparently the dollar will grow stronger, increasing the value of the set. Therefore increasing customs.

If you order from WHSmiths you can get it for £26.99 by using the local store website with 10% off (see the Alien Quadrilogy thread a few days ago). If you get it delivered to your local store its P&P free. But they have the RRP at £29.99 so I think its a price error.

Just went through the steps to order the boxset at Streets Online and it says "Standard £0.00" so I guess delivery is free.

Now CD Wow have the box set at £28.99 region 2
    Link provided: http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2.php?product_code=10735

So with the link that's £27.49 but as we know, they take the money now. What happens if you do pre order, say at this price and then they reduce the price, do they refund you the difference?

May the box sets be with you

Doubt they will be getting many orders from the UK seeing as you will most likely have to pay Customs and Post Office fees on it. Think I will leave me pre-order with Play, they seem to be matching the lowest price every week.

I must be really stupid but what exactly is the deal with pre-orders?
These companies will probably be fighting each other on prices up to the release date so you will need to keep an eye on the prices or face the possibility of paying more than you need to. Unless there is some extra enticement such as a discount, a poster or fridge magnets or something there seems to be little point to pre-ordering.

For the record I am a fan of these films - have them on video and the prequels on DVD. However, having waited since the dawn of DVD for these three I feel that I can wait for a further month or three and get them for £19.99! Maybe I am odd not wishing Fox to take 29 notes off me for something that probably costs a tenner at most?

As far as the amazon thing goes they've totally clamped down on new account vouchers, I've used about £40 worth of them now and I tried to get a new one a month ago and now they don't even send out e-mails to my domains. If I create a new account with a e-mail address outside of my domain they never open it, I haven't tried getting my postcode slightly wrong and using a credit card they haven't seen yet, but I can't send out vouchers with my existing accounts so I'd have to be able to open two of them or get a mate to invite me, seems like an awful lot of hassle to save £3

same here - can't be arsed to run around to save a quid here or there - I had a £2 voucher with Play anyways due to the lateness of UT2004 being released so I used it up :)
