PANASONIC TH- 42PZ81B looks reasonable as does the PANASONIC TH- 46PZ81B but they are the same price but one is bigger.

What size do you want? Freesat any use? How important is sound (do you have your own surround sound)

How long until your voucher (I presume that's what it is) runs out? New range of Panny plasmas are out soon.

Pioneer make the best plasmas - the PDP-508XD can be found for around £1,500, although not very often, look around for Pioneer Kuro Plasmas, theyre the top ones, most of them (especially the new ones so stretch past 1.5k though

With Freesat you get the HD channels for free (ITV, BBC and CH4), whereas SKY charge you £10/month for HD. Mind you the latest SKY offer is £49 for the SKY+ HD box, which is a bargain.

Agreed, Pannys represent best bang for your buck.

I believe the concensus is that Pannys are more for consumers (BUT I think they are pretty darned good), Pioneer are for enthusiasts demending the best.

Samsung do some pretty decent models too.

Best thing, have a butchers with your peepers and make you own mind on what's best for you..

I would not call meself Pannyfanny for 'nowt. - I've owned 3 and not had a wink of grief.

    PANASONIC TH- 46PZ81B

Can someone confirm that if I buy the above tv it is about the best for hd and sd on the market for the 1100.00 price range. I hope so as it's the best plasma comet sell and that is were I have to buy it from. If anyone has got or knows someone who has got one it would be great for the confirmation of how good it iss. Clearly i get a bit nervous spending big money (for me) on electrical goods as you want them to stay at the top of the market for as long as possible.

    Thanks for your help

the PZ81 is one of the best full stop, Pioneer are the only company who will be that but even thats marginal and only properly noticeable to an experts eye. New Panasonic models are due out in march though so you may want to wait, although the new version of the PZ81 may push your budget, but im not sure. The 46PZ81 is a TOP set though, for SD and HD

Unfortunately Ch4 does not transmit HD on Freesat at present only via SKY HD.

after months of looking around before i took the plunge i rate pioneer as best, with panasonic not far behind, i'd certainly buy one if i was on a slightly tighter budget.

do you have a costco store nearby? if so they have pioneers at a very good price, 42" for aorund 1150 i think

Pioneers do make the best but you generally get more for your money with Panasonic. Pioneer if you the best, if you want better value for money and very similar greatness then Panasonic

Personally, I prefer the picture you get from Panasonics. Pioneers have always been a bit "fizzy" for me.

You'll have to get over that as no matter how good it is now, within 12 months it WILL be superceded.

Fair enough, I know someone who prefers the picture of his £200 26" LCD from argos over my PX80, i think he's just in denial that I have a better TV though

And it's true that even if you get the best TV on the market there will be at least one better from each major brand in a year or so
