What do you think? I think the Mountains episode is excellent, K2 is amazing!!!
Definitely 'Fresh Water' - Angel Falls and the Grand Canyon look amazing.
Do you have US version? Is it region coded or should it work on UK machine. Whats best price you've seen?
US version will work on UK PS3.
Bst price I've seen is £41.99 delivered from movietyme.
Thinking of ordering one myself.
the planet earth (narration) from movie tyme, this is with sir david atten' and not sigorney weaver? is this correct as sigorney narrating planet earth cant be right!!! has to be sir david!
Easily...the bit were the camera dives over the edge of Angel Falls and swings around.
She was the narrator for the US TV broadcast of the series. They changed it back to David Attenborough for the US HD-DVD/Blu-ray release.
Yep, I have US version, got a mate to pick it up for me £34. It's DA not SW.
That's the one! I think when DA is describing the Colorado River and then says 'The Grand Canyon ...' is also brilliant - definitely one to show off your system!
This is really *really* wetting my appetite for next weekend/the weekend after (All depends on how Lincoln finish in the league as to when I go home next), can't wait to see this footage in glorious HD!!
They've been playing the series on BBC HD via Sky HD recently and I recorded all the episodes. Do you think Bu-Ray will be even better than the quality Sky HD broadcast?
Trying to decide whether to buy it on Blu-Ray or not...
Got mine from Amazon.com , £35 delivered , just waiting for Dragon's Lair to ship
Have you actually recieved it yet? because anything over £18 from Amazon is at risk of customs and if it gets caught you are looking at paying another £15+ on top.
yep have to agree so far only watched first disc thou but
angel falls and the bit when the crocs jump out the water to get the buffalo's-fast as ****
As I found it when I ordered the Forbidden Planet collectors edition!
I have an outstanding order for Planet Earth from Amazon.
And a slip from the Post Office for a £15.01 charge.
Hopefully the visuals from when I stick this in, will outweigh the additional cost.
Any reason why you ordered from Amazon instead of one of the customs friendly companies?
They only charged me £14.87. It's still a con though.
I think Sky HD has a very much lower bitrate, I have heard of a quarter of the bitrate of HD discs being talked about.
Any other recommendations to watch, so far have seen fresh water and pole to pole,
Even the mrs is impressed
For those thats interested , mine arrived last friday (11-05-2007) from Amazon.com for a delivered price of $69.93.
Post Office charges in addition were VAT (£6.10) and Royal Mail International Clearance Fee (£8) . So a total of £35.26 + £14.10 = £49.36
the caves are pretty cool still gotta watch the rest of them, ordered through movietyme, £41.99 arrived within a week!
Wow... Watched the Freshwater episode at home... Just... Wow.
The colour as it's going along the rocks, the sheer detail of the mist and the rainbows as it comes down over the falls... HD rules!
Just got it from movietyme! (by the way, thank you guys, movietyme is a very online shop!)
What can I say? I just want to cry when I see all the magnificent scenes! And, they are all in crispy HD format!!!
Can I ask a tiny small question: How can they shoot these scenes? are they all real or some of them are made in computer?
They are all real afaik, most of them shot in HD cameras.
All the scenes are real and were filmed on location. Nothing is computer generated.
I decided to buy a book about the making of it. Actually just found it on amazon.
But some of them may be helped by computer? such as in the first episode, the fast season change in a single screen from left to right, etc.
That's not modifying the original source material or creating new source material. All it's doing is uising computer technology to speed things up. That is quite common in natural history documentaries.
They're all amazing, I've watched the BBC HD versions (however there's only 6) and the recently acquired HD DVD release and couldn't tell that much difference to be honest but that's probably because I'm watching it on my PC. The jungle with the colours of the frogs and the forests with those birds of paradise are really good. My favourites have to be the Oceans, Shallow Seas and Fresh Water as I like sea life and water shown in HD is truly spectacular seeing individual drops and splashes brings everything to life.
Mine should be here on Monday. Can't wait to see this. Got it for 65euro from Axelmusic for the Blu-ray
