No, the ones in the shop will definately not be newer than 2.0

2.0 is fine anyway since you can downgrade to 1.5 from 2.0, so it doesn't have to be one that is "lower" - just one that is no higher.

Pretty sure all the ones in the shop will still be 1.52 - irrelevent anyway given the above

    That was just luck!

Anyways, as long as the one in the shop has 1.51, 1.52 or 2.0, you can downgrade to 1.5. Ask to check beforehand.

    Just to reiterate...

NO PSP IN THE WORLD SOLD COMMERCIALLY IN ANY RETAIL OUTLET RIGHT NOW IS SELLING ANY PSP WITH A FIRMWARE NEWER THAN 2.0

Who knows they may start turning up very soon.

Reason being is that there is simply no way that the recent upgrades will make it into the psp's being made and into the shops in such short time. Its impossible.

Heck I bought a motherboard recently and it came with the original bios from when it was first released (as do most).

Going off topic there - just ask before you buy, that should alleviate any unwarranted paranoia. :hiya:

i've been doing a bit of research but can you tell me apart from hooking up to a pc can the firmware be updated any other way?
just asking in case i put a film / game in it and it does the upgrade on its own !!
may be a really dumb question .....

Yep its a really dumb question...

    only kidding ;)

Nah right just to make sure you don't worry.

NO GAME WILL UPDATE THE FIRMWARE WITHOUT ASKING

It will say "You have to upgrade your firmware to play this game, do you want to do this now?" And you'll have a yes\no screen. If you say yes then you will have to then agree to a license agreement, then go through a few more screens. Abit like installing a computer game\program.

YOU MUST ALSO HAVE THE POWER CORD PLUGGED IN THE PSP WHEN UPGRADING THE FIRMWARE.

So there is more chance of Elvis knocking on your door for a cup of tea and a chat than anything going pear shaped.

The normal way to upgrade your firmware (the only way) with the MPH downgrader is by following the instructions that come with it.

Its all done from the memory card - no cable should be connected to your pc!!! (obviously you connect the USB cable to the PSP to put the files on the memory card)
