ok i called them and they have the rel200 for £450 and the rel150 for £399. apparantly the 150 is a stripped down 200 and they say that the 200 has a better sound than the 100 did, with less boomyness. but i thought that people considered the 100 to LESS boomy than the 200. so what do i go for? the 150 or 200???? thanks.

I've got a REL Q100 and it is definately the less boomy of the two. This was one of the main reasons I went for this over the 200. When I auditioned the 200 I was taken back by its small size and large sound, but I also use my 100 for a lot of music and the 200 was just too much boom. Some people like that but for music I prefer the more subtle approach and the 100 had more depth to it. It goes pretty deep as well so I feel it is the better all-rounder. So do others if I recall as it one lots of awards!

um sort of Noel. ahem. unfortunatly the q100 has been disscontinued. i considered the 150 but that is the 200 but a stripped down version. i.e its an inferior 200 rather than an improved 100. so i opted for the 200. woohoo i got a decent price too. £450, £5 delivery and they said i could trade my CC6 centre speaker that i hate so much and my rear speakers: the 303's. i cant belive how much they gave me for them. £100 for the cc6 and £90 for the 303's. hehe what idiots. and then they offered me £80 for my bottom of the range yamaha which only cost me £129 new. when i called REL headquarters they seemed to think that the 100 had a more boomy and less speedy response. i can turn the 200 pretty low anyway so i doubt it will matter. and hey i'm used to a £130 yamaha sub so the chances are it will sound less boomy than that and a hell of a lot more dynamic. roll on the delivery of that AND my 602's and LCR600!!

hehe, quite some begginers set up.

Why not go for one of the ST range models? Not so small but more musical. They cut it for HC aswell.

becasue i can get the rel200 at £450. the strata 3 costs £650 and i simply wont pay that much when the rel200 will still be miles ahead in musicality than my yamaha anyway.

Good choice of sub, im still using the q100 and even though I would not upgrade it, it does not mean that the q200 is a bad sub, however there is not that much difference between the two, so again I commend you on you choice.

One thing I will say is get a good quality phono cable for connection and do NOT bother with the speaker level connection provided.

Also get reading on set-up hints well in advance to be preepared, it took me years to get the best from my sub

    Try here for starters.......

You might all think I'm mad but I sold my M&K 150 sub last week and bought a pair of Q100E's.
Much much better.
Sounds a lot more balanced not to mention musical.
I run a trio of M&K 150's for the front soundstage a pair of SS150 tripoles for sides and a pair of S85's for rears.
The whole lot now sounds fantastic, and is a huge improvement for music listening.
I found the M&K 150 sub to be a little harsh and hollow. One of my friends gave it a good description...wobbly.
Sad to see the Q100's being discontinued. I think they are miles better than those silly little 150's/200's etc.
Seems to me that REL is mimicking one of our American cousins tactics with their Subwoofer production. Namely 'True Subwoofers' by Bob Carvers sunfire company. Take a look, you read it right 2700 watts www.sunfire.com
This small box large amp business just doesent do it for me. I'll go into why another time.
I believe the The REL Q100E was probably the most underestimated Subs around. Bring it back now.

    Eric
p.s, As I already have one in my living room system, I now have three. I'm trying to corner the Q100E market

yeah its annoying its been disscontinued. it forced me to buy a Q200 instead. but im sure it will still be great. and of course it is a better model even if it dosnt suit everyones tastes. obviously 2 q100's would be better but i dont have that much money to throw around and their not available anymore. lol you wont belive this:....laservision were ram raided last night which means i wont get it till friday: the day i leave to uni. this kind of thing happens to me ALL the time. the LCR600 delayed, van brakes down for something else, etc. its still funny though.

aww duncan your so sweet thanks for the advice and links.

this bitch should shake the house a bit. i managed to make the floor shake with a pair of 601's and with no sub attached. with a pair of 602's and a relq200 i could in theory destroy the house. woohoo!

ah well it looks like i wont be enjoying it all till after i get home at xmas when it will all be delivered and then i can finally set it up and enjoy. hmmm maybe ill make the speaker stands at uni. by the way duncan. the new 602's are stunning. way improved build structure with braces to elliminate distortion, they are more open and even more detailed than their predassesors. the lcr600 is still not out due to new improvememnts. i cant wait.

I thought that the Q200 is supposed to be great with movies but not so good with music, the Q201 (a Q200 with feet?) is better than the Q200 with music but just as good with movies and the Q150 is just a lower power version of the Q201.

So, given the choice (for music and movies) I'd take a Q150 over a Q200 but a Q201 would be best of all. For movies only a Q200 would be fine.

Then again, perhaps my mind has been twisted by What HiFi? Whatever, a Q150 for £399 sounds pretty good and I agree that it's a great shame that the Q100 is being discontinued - is the Q50 for the chop too?

    Yes it is.

the 201 is just the 200 with a grill at the front. They dont sound any different and the 200 comes with feet to attach anyway. I tested the 200 for music in a store and it was fantastic. It isnt a dedicated music sub like the Strata, but it WAS tighter and stronger than the 150 with more musicality. This makes it the best option. i cant afford a strata 3. not even close so it makes a £450 q200 the best possible solution. And by the way, from everyone i have asked, the q200 is more musical than the q100. The reason the disscontinued it was becasue they needed refinement. I can't find one review that isnt 5 stars must buy for it either.

Thanks for the info Dave - sounds like the Q200 is the best bet then. My only question now is: have Laservision just got one (ex dem or something) Q200 at £450 or is this their normal price? Reason I ask is that their website quotes £600 for it.

    they have a 'few'

the website prices are waaaay out of date my son. i called all the hi fi mags and they said the Q200 is the best option allround unless you want to pay £250 more for a strata 3, and even then it isnt a lot better. Considering my small room, and this is my first ever set up i think it will be just fine. Give laser vision a call. by the way...you can trade equipment and they give you half the price you paid for it. Now thats damn good if you ask me. I traded in 3 B&W speakers for that much even without their boxes!!

Thanks again Dave - the trade in deal sounds really good - this got me thinking - how's this all going to work as they're probably miles away from where I live.

Then (for the first time) I noticed their address on their website - would you believe they are only around 12 MILES from where I live!

A new Q200 maybe gracing my house shortly.
