i am now in a position to be able to order the r1 version of indiana jones box set

what i need to know is where is the best place to order it so i dont get hammered on custom charges

movietime offer refunds if you do get charged but at 38 quid this is a little expensive

dvdsoon is cheaper but dont fancy getting it just before xmas

cdwow ???? mid priced so not sure

Never had a problem with new releases from DVD Soon, but bear in mind you'll probably get a dual language cover with the Indy box set, if you order with them. Apparently CD-WOW are shipping the US version.

spent about £1000 on imports this year, not once had a customs bill. maybe im lucky.
i usually only order one or two at a time
although this week i had a package of atleast 6dvd's from the US.
still no knock from mr customs.

i tend to use dvdpacific and cdwow for most R1's

yeah i tend to agree with your choice for cdwow although the mutli language covers dont bother me that much cdwow did mail me saying they are doing 4 releases of the trilogy

    a 1:33 french version
    a 2:35 french version
    a 1:33 us version
    a 2:35 us version

these will be the covers and they are all uncut

You lucky people, I have been hit by Customs every time i ordered something over £18 from cd-wow and the same from play. :(

Came upon this nice little site however, enterprisesdvd.com, so far i have bought Ichi The Killer and Stargate Season 4, both over £20, and not been hit by Customs. The stargate season was the same price from Play so saved a tenner from customs and Post Office charges.

They are not that great at keeping you informed however, Stargate S4 was still 'on order' on my accounts page even though it had arrived that very morning. Won't take the money from you until said DVD's have been despatched however so i don't mind that much.

Unlike DVD-Soon, pre-ordered Finding Nemo and Alien Quad-thingy, took the money off next day, still at £54 as long as they arrives before xmas I won't be complaing (Nemo is for Nephews Birthday, 27th Dec poor wee soul)

with this kind of bad luck, could it be likely that some
parts of the country have stiffer rules than others. i have no idea where parcels goto when they arrive in the country. do they all go to the same place all to localised depots. As I said before i have a about three parcels a week and have never been done for extra tax. it seems some of our forum users have some serious bad luck.

Read the small print sleepyone! CD-WOW will refund any customs charges incurred! I had to pay customs £12.50 for the Die Hard boxset - I emailed them and told them and they refunded my credit card immediately :smashin:

It does make you wonder why they would do this? I know they are a great company and all that, but it is legally the buyers liability to pay the customs charges. If I was running a company such as CD WOW, I'd be buggered if I'd pay customers customs fees for them! The DVDs they offer are at good prices anyway, so to offer to cough up, for example, £12.50 out of the profits for every Die Hard box set sold, seems like madness to me.

Still, good on them! Let's hope they can manage to keep it up! ;)

Never had a problem with DVDBoxOffice... though they're based in Canada so will sometimes have multi-lingual covers.

What annoys me about multi-lingual covers is the fact that they put the enlgish text first, followed by the french text, then on the other side of the cover, they put the french text first followed by the english! Why don't they just do one side english, one side french????

LEX: Sorry, I didn't make myself clear, I did get my refund from CD-Wow, I was just making the point that DVDEmterprises deliveries didn't get charged at all while cd-wow did.
Apoligies for not making this clearer

Sorry to come over all uninformed and that but all this talk of customs charges has me confused.

I don't normally buy box sets but I will be getting the Alien Quadrilogy set. If I buy R2 from, say, Play or CD-WOW might I be liable for customs charges or does it only apply to R1 etc?

If I would be liable, why? Aren't the sets distributed from the UK?

    Summary of Following:

    If R2 no charges
If £18 or under no charges
If R1 and over £18 probably get done for Custom

    Details:

I always thought the charges that the custom people make are Import VAT, I'm sure someone will tell me if i'm wrong :)

Not forgetten the £4 the Post Office charge you for putting the box through Customs and Keeping it until you come to collect it and pay the charges.

You wont get charged VAT on R2 because R2's are generally delivered from within the UK so will have the VAT already paid on them.

R1 however might come from another country (cd-wow from Hong Kong and PlayUSA from Belgium) so will generally go through customs. if the DVD is £18 or under Customs generally ignore it. Over that and it's pot luck I think.

I get done every time i order box sets from CD-wow or PlayUSA. Although i can get a refund from them.

http://www.enterprisesdvd.com/ however dont get charged so saves me the bother of having to get refund.

Someone on here can probably give you better explanation but that's what I think.
