Sorry if this has been covered before.

I have just had to send my Benq 5210 back and rather than replace it for my Ebuyer have refunded my money!

Anyway to cut a long story short I am thinking about replacing it with an LCD, either a new one or a second hand one.

    What's the best?

I originally bought a BenQ PE5120, but sent it back, having received two duds and with big concerns over picture quality, rainbows and build quality.

I'm now the very happy owner of a Sanyo PLV Z3, which, if I sell the free bulb I got with it, will have set me back £600. What a difference an extra £130 can make!!!!

Well KBDVD, two years is a lot of time in projector years.
the Sanyo Z3 sells around 850 with an extra lamp which means that the unit is around 600 and is at worst as good as or most likely better than the 2yr old sony.

You are not going to be able to buy a new Z3 for that sort of money even if you sell the lamp. Try the Epson TW10H, not heard much negative comment about it. The 5120 is tempting but it does seem to have more issues than most...PJ :)

What about a second hand Epson TW200 with 750 hours on the bulb for £475, is that a good buy?

I've read reviews from US av forum groups that state the 5120 has better black levels and contrast compare to the Z3.
Mine should arrive on Monday so i'll let you know what it's like.

I have had a Benq 5120 and had to send it back because of a fault. However I was happy with it while it worked. I am considering LCD because I suffered with the Rainbow Effect.

The Benq 5120 is a terrible machine. I've demoed a Themscene H30a, Infocus 4805, Panny 700, and a Sony HS50 at great length at can honestly say it shouldn't be compared to any of the machines above (it really is that bad). The star buy seems to be the Z3 at the moment and if you thought the PQ was good on the 5120 you will be blown away by the PQ of the Z3

It can't have been set up / calibrated properly then or your machine was faulty.
Every review i've read have all highly recommended the 5120.
All the reviews i've read that compare the 5120 to the 4805 have said that they are pretty close in performance.
I've read personal reviews on the US avforums and some folks have even prefered it to the 4805.

    Check out the projectorcentral review

Me and a mate spent 3 hours at his house with a laptop, Zoomplayer running ffdshow, hdmi cable running hidef material and Star Wars ep. 2. the PC was pixel matched 1:1 and setup correctly. It came nowhere close to a Themescence H30A in PQ performance. I hope I'm wrong Cyber, and agree the reviews do like the machine. The only thing it may have been was the screen - anyway let us know how you get on, and if you can get the chance to see the Infocus 4805 or Themscence H30A (or already have) please let me know how you think they compare :smashin:
