Depends very much on your price range, but those are both good pieces of equipment with good resolution of fine detail...I use both XLO reference interconnects and Kimber in my system, and would recommend Kimber PBJ(www.russandrews.com) for a lower priced cable, and work up from there.
I've tried numerous other cables, and found these suit my gear best, but do be sure to listen before you buy.

    Thanks for that.

Price is not really an issue as I want to be sure I'm getting the best sound I can. I'm currently using an Audioquest Quartz x 3 Hyperlitz. Sounds pretty good but I have nothing to ompare it with.

Thats a very decent piece of wire there,witters....in order to do better,I'd recommend trying the XLO Signature 1.2 or Kimber Silver Streak or KCAG...the XLO reference cables are a slightly more bearable price and also very good....I have a mixture of these in my system(from buying over the years!).

Due to the costs involved,I'd recommend trying some Kimber products via Russ Andrews,as you can at return them if you don't like them....they actually gaurantee that, and I can vouch for the quality of service myself.

Thanks for the advice - much appreciated.

I'll give the Kimber a go as you suggest. If you can return it if there is no advantage it's a no risker;)

How about the Transparent cables? They start off from the affordable and go right up to the unimaginable price bracket!

I have tested many cables and have found them to be the best. Krell use Transparent cables for all their products at the Hifi shows.... so they must be that good.

The reason I suggested Kimber is not only the general sound quality of the entire range especially with respect to price in each category, but also the fact that Russ Andrews will accept returned items( in mint condition obviously)if the buyer is not wholly satisfied or convinced.
To the best of my knowledge Transparent's dealers do not offer the same, and I find that Kimber goes very well with my set of Krells(PowerKords plus interconnects).
Dan's suggestion of KS-1030 is fine, but I dont think even I'd suggest that for anything less than a full Krell/Wilson home theatre system!...stick to things like PBJ/S.Streak/KCAG and you'll do fine.

That is true what you mention re RussAndrews return policy, however if you use a good dealer I am sure they will happily change it for you - as a note my dealer will sell you an interconnect and if in the future you wish to upgrade it they will refund you a majority of the initial cost - at least that way it makes upgrading much easier.

By the way my dealer is Acoustic Arts....

Thats a good dealer, marck, not all will give you such decent service, and few will give you a full refund....for what it's worth,RA's upgrade deal is full credit of the original cable price within one year, against the new one.....I know it's venturing a bit off topic, but a shame more dealers don't offer a good trade-in policy,as most cables stay in very good condition, and I'm sure it would generate a bit of trade.

BTW...nice to see someone else using a REL in the land of Velodyne!

That is true what you say re dealers. I have found AA to be the best dealer that I have come across - for advice and service.

I would still recommend demoing the Transparent cables though - no harm in trying!

BTW, the sub is very good - I would only change to one of the Martin Logan subs!

Absolutely no harm in trying...and the only way you find what you want!....nice also when you find a dealer who really is interested in the customers, and not just in shifting boxes....mine are Audio-T and Audiofile....both very good so far.

Re: the sub...a ML Descent perhaps?....on a more serious note,I agree,it's about the only one I found worked suitably in a 250yr old timber framed house(I had Linn Keltiks before and sold them due to bass reinforcement problems).

    Hi All,

I thought I'd join the thronging masses of Kimber fans and throw my vote behind them too.

I bought a PBJ several years ago and now have Kimber throughout (with the exception of my video leads).

I'm toying with an upgrade but I will definitely be staying with Kimber. I just need to decide whether I should be throwing money at my mains leads, interconnects or 'speaker cables.

As far as interconnects are concerned, I'm toying with KS-1011. I think they're about £360.

Yep, another happy PBJ/powerkord user here - attenuated between CD and amp, normal elswhere.

RA have just extended their trial period to 60 days according to the blurb they've just sent me.

I use Wattgate 350's on my power amps, haven't compared them with a normal IEC plug though, and they're nice - help with the spaciousness of things I find.

The high current PowerKords work fine here thanks, and cleaned up a lot of the poor mains quality interference as well....ideal for running Class A amps off!

Also very happy with the XLO interconnects work nicely as well...esp the digital one.

Witters, just FYI, I use a pair of Ecosse Reference Maestros between the Meridian and my preamp. Demoed it against a whole load of comparable cables (including several Kimber models) a couple years ago and found it to be much more detailed, relaxed, 'airier', transparent, and just sounded much more 'right' than any of the others. (Heehee, I still feel a bit embarrassed saying things like that about a bit of wire - am I mad? Or just gullible? )

Oh, and 507? What 507?

None of those things,dunkyboy.....when lots of other people can hear similar improvements by changing the interconnects, you know it's not just madness setting in!

BTW,the Ecosse cables have a very nice sound too...just didnt suit either my ears(!) or my Krells.
It's like all these subjective things....a matter of trying(and hopefully not spending too much along the way)and finding something you like.

    Thanks Dunc.

I'm afraid your 506.24 hasn't lasted long either, although it really is superb. My 508.24 arrives today with a bit of luck:D
