As the title suggest I was wondering if any one liked a particular instrumental part within a vocal track. I was playing Music by John Miles the other day and though the instrumental part was brilliant.
Other examples I like are Macarthur Park by Richard Harris and Something in the Air by Thunderclap Newman.
At the present I cannot think of any more but there must be plenty.
I do not mean the intro that has already been done.

The harmonica solo by Stevie Wonder in Eurythmics' "There Must Be An Angel" is awesome.

The bass break in "You Are The Universe" by The Brand New Heavies = sublime.

The poly-synth riff in Daft Punk's "Aerodynamic"... very powerful.

The Piano accompanyment in Gary Jules' version of "Mad World", although I guess that's an intro...

The guitar solo in American HiFi's Flavour of the Weak

The guitar solo in RHCP's My Lovely Man

The synth solo in Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Too many guitar solo's to put here really, loads I love.

BTW, I hate the song. Just to get that straight. Stevie is a god though... :D

Yes, lots of guitar solos in songs are decent (usually not the flashy ones). Good thing this is limited to vocal tracks otherwise I'd be posting all night...

The funny thing with two of the three I mention the instrumental bit takes the song in an other direction Music and Macarthur Park are pretty laid back but the instrumental bit up the tempo a lot.

Guitar solo in Stairway to Heaven by Led Zep, thats what made me pick up a guitar in the first place.

Mays solo in Queens Bohemian Rhapsody.

and I still like the instrumental in Starship Trooper by Yes:blush:

I really like Duane Allman's guitar solo on Clarence Carter's THE ROAD OF LOVE. I really like Jerry Garcia's guitar solo on The New Riders Of The Purple Sage's I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR. But, hmnnn, the winner is Creedence Clearwater Revival's totally oustanding take on Marvin Gaye's I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE. Now that'sa a long'a spicey guitar solo.

Most awesome guitar solo, especially when played really loud for me is the extended version of Goodbye To Love by The Carpenters :) .

My favourite Carpenters track(Karens as well), how long is the extended version? I have it on a CD 4.00 minutes long, is that the same or is there an other.

There are some instrumental bits on the Temptations full versions of Smiling Faces, Papa Was a Rolling Stone and Masterpiece but I do not know if these are Instrumentals in vocal tracks or vocals in instrumental tracks.

I also have a 8 minute version of Keep on Truckin’ by Eddie Kendricks with most of it instrumental in the centre which is good but they miss out the plane falling out of the sky which goes from the left side to the right on the sigle.

The saxophone solo during Gerry Rafferty's
Baker Street. Showing my age, maybe, but I
    bet you're all humming it!:D

    Garrett,
The full version off " Song For You " is often referred to as the extended version, the single release faded Tony Peluso's guitar making it about 20 seconds shorter, yours is the " extended version " .
There is a third version available on " Anthology " , it differs in Richard's count down is audible and Karen takes an audible intake of breath at the beginning.
It's on the cards that a hi-resolution DVD-A release of " Song For You " will be available by next Spring. :)

    Gringotts,

I hate when artists shorten song by removing outros. The Manics are re-releasing Mortorcycle Emptiness (or so I've heard) and are cutting JDB's ace solo/outro off the end. They did the same with Roses in the Hosplital, which has another brilliant solo at the end.

 Do you mean the full version of ‘Goodbye To Love’ is on an album of the Carpenters called ‘A Song For You’?
I have it in the white box set 'From the Top'.

Of topic one of my favourite versions of ‘A Song For You’ is by Donny Hathaway.
