best HDMI DVD player for Toshiba DLP projector?

I'll shortly be acquiring a Toshiba 52WM48 DLP rear projector and I'm looking for a good DVD player to connect to it via HDMI. Models so far on my list:

Pioneer DV-668AV-S
Denon 2910

These seem to be the obvious choice so far (at least to a newbie like me). I've got a budget of upto £500 or so, any recommendations or anything I'm missing?

Many thanks.

Kev.

How about taking a look at the Oppo 761, Panasonic S97 and the Philips DVD9000. I have the S97 and 9000 and think both have excellent image quality when using HDMI. I've only read about the Oppo, but it gets very favourable reviews. :)

but given I'm spending the best part of £2K on a TV would I be better to spend £400-500 on a DVD player as oppposed to £200? I mean, would I notice a difference, especially if I add surround sound at a later date (sorry, a bit of a newbie to all this!)

I have the samsung DVD-HD745, I got it for £80, it outputs over DVI to my DVI input LCD. The reason I spent so little, is that Blue-Ray and HD-DVD are just around the corner, and that will be a major purchase. They should (at least HD-DVD should) play back upscaled normal DVD's. You are likely only to have 1 Hdmi input on your TV, it could be used for Sky HD, or Blue-ray/HD-DVD. Also some people prefer the upscaled component output on these types of DVD players.
The samsung DVD-HD850 does HDMI and is a cheap stop gap, imho!!!

Hey Kev 777.

I'm in the same boat as you are
1. I'm a newbie and
2. I'm looking for a DVD player with HDMI output to go with my newly aquired Panasonic PTAE700 proj.

I've read several great reviews on the Panasonic S97 but seems like no one has it in stock anymore with a lot of companies saying it is discontinued ???? Can't understand why panasonic would discontinue their top of the line machine. The samsung seems ok and cheap but sounds as if the menus etc. are poor also read some threads where it sounded like this player has a few bugs.

Who knows???? Happy hunting
