Hi, I have a Samsung UE48JU6000 smart tv hooked up to a Samsung HT-J4500 surround sound receiver via ARC. I’m wondering what the best HDMI Audio Format is for playing Netflix on my TV. I have the option of using bitstream or PCM. From my research I understand that with PCM the audio will be decoded by the tv and then sent to the receiver and with bitstream the encoded audio is sent to the receiver which then decodes it. But I’m not quite sure which mechanism results in better sound quality. Another question I have conceptually is regarding my PS4. When I set its output to bitstream DTS surround sound doesn’t work unless I set the audio format on the tv to bitstream as well. Could somebody please explain why that happens? The PS4 is hooked up to my tv via HDMI.
