Can anyone please advise the best choice for a DVD recorder with HD to use alongside SKY+? I currently have an excellent picture quality on my TV via RGB from the SKY+ box and wish to instal a DVD recorder between the digibox and TV without loss of quality.
I also have component IN available on my TV.

    Many thanks.

    :hiya: Welcome to the forums!

The machines to look at are the Toshiba RDXS32 and Panasonic range specifically the E85, E95 or E500. All will record and loop through the RGB input from your Sky+ unit (or convert it to component). Which one is best for you depends on numerous factors:
    - Do you want to use the machine as your main DVD player?
    - What's more important custom menus or highest possible recording quality?
    - How important is it that the machine is easy to use?
    - Do you require iLink (for digital camcorders)?
    - Do you require DVD-RW?
    - How much TV do you want to record (to determine HDD size)?
    - Which machine do you like the look of best?

All links are for info only - you will be able to get them cheaper if you shop around.

I am using Sky+ and Tosh, but have not owned Panny so can't compare. I am finding the combo I have works well.

Elsewhere there have been frustrations described with the Panny as it does not automatically start timer recordings unless it is in standby. Somebody could also clarify if the Panny does RGB passthru when it is on standby. I find the Tosh is in "Eco Standby" most of the time, with "SATMON" selected so the RGB Sky+ signal passes through to the TV. (If I have got these facts wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected!)

My only frustration with the Tosh is knowing that the Panny can go to 3 hours before the resolution drop. I have't had a real life situation where I have a quality compromised DVD-R as a result of this, it just bugs me knowing!! :)

    Yes it does.

Yes this is true. However as Sky+ will remain the primary initial recorder this seems largely unnecessary. But naturally that depends upon individual useage.

On the subject of sat mon.

It bugged me at first. Now I love it given that I can still watch the throughput of my Sky box while the Tosh is doing dubbing.
