i currently have an nvidia 8500gt and it suits me perfectly appart from the fact that nvidia still have not put options to create custom resolutions within there vista drivers.:mad:
i can not select the res/refresh rate i need.
i have xp mce and the drivers from nvidia are perfect but i can not get my movies to work because i can`t install the roll up 2 update that is required:mad:
so im snookered at the minute, nvidia look as though there never going to be getting round to sorting out there driver which is a shame.
so what other cards are out there that have the options for custom timings with vista?
im planning on getting in to blu ray/hd dvd so i would need a card that gives me the option of hardware acceleration as i only have a amd 3600x2.
how are some of the ati cards these days?
picture quality is top of my priority list!
    thanks
    lee
    :)

Download a program called powerstrip. This allows you to define custom resolutions - it works with most ati and nvidia graphics cards.

power strip does not work with the 8 series cards.

are there any cards that perform the same as my 8500 gt for my htpc?
has ati got any cards out that are more focused on htpc that work well with vista?

i have an ASUS M2NPV-VM that has intergrated nvidia 6150 graphics.
im guessing that the nvidia drivers for this will have the same options as my 8500 gt?

i think powerstrip will work with the 6150,so i might give vista another trial and hope i can get up and running.
how does the 6150 handle hd?
will my 3600x2 (overclocked to 2500mhz) be enough to play 720p and even 1080p stuff with the 6150?

Have a look at the 2400/2600 series of cards which are meant to be very good cards for HTPC use. The drivers aren't perfect there either, so be warned.
