    Hi,

Can anyone provide me with a recommendation for a pair of front speakers for max £250??

Its for my friend who has caught the Home Cinema Bug, but I haven't been keeping track of the speaker world of late, so Im struggling to help him.

Any advice, mail-order companies or recomendations and would be most welcomed.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Tannoy M(X) series might be worth having a look at. M(X)3 make excellent front speakers with good bass so you won't feel the need for a subwoofer immediately.
I however urge to buy a matching center speaker, too.

I've recently bought a pair of Tannoy MX4's along with MXC center and MX1 rears and I'm very happy with them. The MX4's were £280 from Sound & Vision in Bolton.

As Reiner mentioned, they give you plenty of Bass.

Now that's how threads should be!!

He asked for help, everyone helped. He seems happy.

Better than a barage of "you really should audition"..."Use your ears" "helpful" responses :)

(happened to me a short while ago )

    Have fun!

I think a pair of B&W DM305 (floorstanding speaker) would be nice. B&W recently ceased production of these so you may find them cheap.

A friend just brought some KEF Cresta 3's from www.hifijunkies.co.uk for £179 (retail £250) with free UPS delivery. I listened to them yesterday and was very impressed.

Accoustic Energy AE109's, or AE109SE's (real woodveneer) if you are lucky.

They are excellent floorstanding speakers for the money, produce thunderous, controlled bass and an excellent sounds stage. The standard 109's can be had for £250 now they have been replaced by 109SE's, they were £350. You may even be able to get 109SE's for less than £350 now if you shop around. Look at What Hi-Fi as they are hifi speakers after all.

    Happy hunting!
