    Hi
First of all, I didn't know where to post my new thread, so i choose XP, although this applies to any operating system.

I am looking for a programme which encrypts files. Currently I am interested in TrueCrypt free tool which seems to be what I need, but as always, i seek for reviews about this programme, if its security can be defeated using the best computers, and in our lifetime. (FYI: any encryption can be hacked using brutal force methods, however, the more secure encryption techniques, may take many years to hack, using latest computer processors.. correct me if i'm wrong)
Is there any other programme which is better than TrueCrypt?

Another tool that I am looking for is to encrypt instant messaging. I found one called SIMP by Secway, IT security specialist - IM encryption products however only the lite version is free.
The complete version of SIMP, SIMPpro, does both file and IM encryption.

Any thoughts or reviews on these programmes.

    Thanks

TrueCrypt is the best encryption tool out there. And hasn't been hacked to my knowledge.

As for instant messaging encryption - isn't that applied anyway. AFAIK there is no way to snoop on MSN convos, short of installing a keylogger.

    Thanks.
Regarding the security of windows live messenger, I tried to google it, but i didn't find anything indicating that it is secure. i only found programmes that offer convos encryption!! and this site (How safe is instant messaging? A security and privacy survey | Politics and Law - CNET News) indicates that conversations are not secure, and are open for eavesdropping in windows live messenger.
