    Hi all,

I'm looking at ripping my DVDs to my hard disk and was wondering which file format to use. I've used AnyDVD to create TS files, but these come out at over 4GB. What is the best file format for a lower file but still keeping the video quality?

Oh, it has to work in MCE too !!

    Cheers,

    Richie.

Yes, DVD Decrypter in file mode works well with My Movies - DVD Shrink will get rid of extra's and/or compress the video if you prefer.

Well if you wanna keep it simple and the folder structure intact I would highly recommended DVD Shrink. Insert the DVD, let it finish scanning the disc, then click "Backup!" all done ;)

    Thanks guys.

I've used DVD Shrink but it outputs TS files. Is 4GB about the right size for a DVD film ?

    Richie.

They are normally between 4gb and 8gb, if you used DVD shrink it may have compressed it to 4gb.

If you want to save a bit of space you could try AutoGK to compress them to Xvid format - Guide here:-http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm

Just noticed it has to work in MCE - not sure if MCE plays Xvid files, but i'm sure you can get add-ons that will allow it.
