Having been discussing with a mate about various things.....he gave me very good reason to beleive him saying that ntl cable is both cheaper and actually faster than adsl......that was until he then informed me that s-video and composite was the best soundcard output......

so what do you guys think?

In truth there's very little in it. Those with Cable will say it's better whilst those with ADSL will claim the high ground.
Both ping in games very similar amounts but cable may just have the edge generally being 5-10ms lower.
As for browsing and downloading, again, there's very little in it.

The one thing with ADSL is your supplier is unlikely to bite the dust unlike your cable supplier ;)

Oh yeah, ADSL roolz yo ass :)

The IT bloke at work rang the blueyonder number you ring to see if they can get cable to your area and their response was "Where's Braintree?", so I can guess why Desmo has ADSL...

As he says tho', there's nothing really in it. I'm on Blueyonder, and it's great. Falls over occasionally, but genereally it's ok.

Not a cable in sight around here, not even on some of the new big estates they've been building.

One thing that seems odd is that a 512k DSL service tops out at 512k (as if you were expecting something different).

    BUT

The NTL cable modem service, although advertised as 512k is actually capped at 600k !!!

So in reality, an NTL cable modem is faster (but not by much).
