Bought Planet Earth @ the weekend - not only is the picture quality rather special, it's also a damned good watch :smashin:

Also got Die Hard 4 & Spiderman Trilogy .... hoping that @ least 1 of those has a reasonable picture, as I've not yet watched them.

Die Hard 4 is by far the best PQ I've seen so far on BR, you'll have no complaints about that one :smashin:

Those of you after Planet Earth - assuming it's region free (haven't checked), get the US/Region A version as it's in full 1080p, whereas the UK/Region B is only 1080i.

£41.99 at Movietyme, not sure that it's the cheapest though.

I have the UK version & the first 4 discs are 1080p same as the US version, it's only the extra disc (desert lions/snow leopards) which is in 1080i, probably the reason why they had to put 1080i on the box.......:)

is there really any difference between the two? who can actually see a difference?

anyway, i don't want to hijack the thread. the best quality i have seen so far is Apocalypto for a film and Open Season for animation.

i only have a few though. £17.99 is to much to pay for a movie and the prices need to come down.

The best one for me is also Apocalypto. Blu-ray really shows up the exceptional and breathtaking photography.

i posted this on HD Movies aswell

Ok so i have just taken the plunge about bought a PS3 and would like to know some good films to get on blu ray (have to be exclusive as i have a stand alone hd-dvd player)

    i have already bought

    Superbad
    Surfs Up
    The Crow
    The Pursuit Of Happyness
    Black Hawk Down
    Hitch

so any other suggestions would be brilliant but as stated above have to be exclusive to blu ray

BBC's planet earth is truly amazing on blu-ray (if you're into documentaries). It has some amazing footage and watching flowers bloom in HD is something to show your friends with crappy CRT tvs, then point and laugh at them.

Ratatouille, Cars, Spidey 3 and DH4 - the US discs of Pan's Labyrinth and The Descent (IMHO) also look really really good. Contradicting what some others have said, I also think the transfer of Halloween (the original) is also outstanding.

I've just watched Shoot 'Em Up and was impressed with that, the level of detail and sharpness is superb. A good funny film too!

I believe it's March 4th in the US. As it is a 20th Century Fox production it won't be region free either and those with UK PS3's/players will have to wait for the PAL release.
