Although there are only a few titles out at the moment, which Blu-ray films do you think has the best picture quality so far? including US blu-rays which are playable on the PS3.

Planet Earth is stunning. The Departed is very good too and both US versions work on a UK PS3.

Happy Feet is probably the best example of animation on blu-ray. Perhaps only until Cars is out.

Ice Age, A Scanner Darkly, Casino Royale and Planet Earth are all excellent examples of Blu-Ray.

So if I get Planet Earth from one of the many sellers on ebay, it'll definitely work on a UK PS3? There was an addendum to one of the auctions that said that UK PS3's wouldn't play it... I don't really wanna shell out £50 if it turns out not to work

Yes it will work on a UK PS3 but why would you want to get it from eBay when Movietyme are doing it for a little over £40 delivered with no customs.

Agree with a lot of the BD titles mentioned , but bear in mind that Black Hawk Down is a great all rounder.
Great PQ and fantastic PCM soundtrack.

In Planet Earth I seem to think DA's commentary is really quiet, does anyone else think this?

I've checked my settings on tv (Sammy M87, PS3 + amp (Yamaha AV59)) but nothing appears to be out of the ordinary....

Anyone else think the commentary is too low v's the surround sound?

    Thank you for the information.

I am wondering if the different from BD and DVD is very obvious?

Can't say I've noticed to be honest, the soundtrack and commentary sounds great going in to my Onkyo 604.

Agreed , my HD-DVD version sounds very good for ordinary DD.
    Commentary is perfect.

The narration on the Planet Earth disks is too low. I agree.

The best disks I have for blu-ray so far are:

Planet Earth (those sections which were shot in HD)
Kung-Fu Hustle - fantastic PQ (great, if not a little odd, film too)
    Casino Royale
    Open Season

All of the above are great in my view.

Indeed, it does look amazing but I think that is also to do with the way it has been post processed.

I've just watched Kingdom of Heaven and some of the scenes in are definitely reference quality...

There is only one version of Planet Earth available on Blu-Ray and it features David Attenborough.

just read the review of pirates of the carribean on highdefdigest uncompressed pcm running at 6.9m should be awesome.
Black hawk down runs at 4.6m but the limit of optical is 4.6 so wont hear the real sound of pirates till i get the 605.
I never did so many comparisons on a movie before blueray then dvd the DD 5.1, then dts then pcm then back to dvd then comparing the same scene all on black hawk down.
The only thing that i could conclude that listening to DD is so flat and lifeless compared to PCM uncompresed it made me think that i was hard of hearing :)
roll on alien/aliens starwars trilogy, indina trilogy ect ect ect
