At the moment I have a cheapo £40 odd dvd player and a phillips dvd recorder thats a couple of years old.

Can anyone tell me the best player to get for use with this screen?
And best way to connect it.

    I currently have sky+ on AV1
    Ps2 on component
    Xbox on AV2
    Dvdrecorder on AV4.

Built a small pc to replace dvd player/recorder but the Mrs doesnt like the thought of a PC in the front room :(

Also I have no amp so a dvd player that uses the panels built in speakers to good effect will be what I am after.

    any help appreciated

How about a Panasonic S97 connected via the LG's DVI socket (HDMI->DVI cable from the player)?

edit: Just read the bit about the sound. You won't get sound like that, sadly. BUT, I guess you could output the sound from the player via stereo phonos into the LG (if it has stereo inputs?).

the dvi part of the input board on the screen only has a single input jack which is one of the regular 3.5mm ones to connect a pc sound card to.

Edit:- would also prefer something between £150 and £200

    Hi bigval,

I have the pioneer DVD 575A and am more than pleased with it. I too have the PX11 screen and the output from this modest DVD player is stunning....I used to have a Denon which cost me £800 a couple of years ago, but this player is far better. I would also connect via component and use progressive scan, that is my favourite connection anyway. You can get the Pioneer for about £110, a bit less than your budget but bear in mind that to get the same quality of picture from a player just over a year ago would have cost you about £800....

I have mission speakers/sub and a pioneer amp but the sound coming from the TV via the DVD phono connections is also very impressive...

The other slightly more expensive option is the Marantz DV4500, this has just come out and the picture quality is nothing short of superb...At £175 I am not sure if it worth the extra cash but is certainly something to audition...

    Best of luck

    Paul

What would you recommend I connect my ps2 up with then?

Kids would miss it if I removed it completely :(

If you went with one of the DVI options for DVD player, you would free up the component input for PS2 (cable is about £15 from Sony's web shop).

Also, you can get a component switchbox for £15 from Whitedog...

    Billy,

That is a very good price for the player. Would you say that you get a better pricture than via component? I have never looked at a HD player before, but the native resolution of the PX11 means that you won`t get any benefit over component.

    Cheers

    Paul

Must admit I have not hooked up component.

DVI is excellent though - well worth the £100
