Hi everyone... I'm new to the boards and I was wondering if someone could advise me on which dvd-recorder would be best to buy.

My only provisio for this purchase is that I can...

    A) Wire in a DV camcorder and...
    B) The disc's I record on will be playable in other ( PAL )machines...

I look forward to hearing from everyone... :)

You'll probably be advised to buy whichever model the poster owns! I own a Panasonic so I suggest you buy that!

Seriously tho' you can find a lot by searching this and other forums. I was recently involved in a similar thread.

Most people, who havent got one, will advise you to wait for the next best thing, this could be a long wait of course.

    Thanks for that tip.

I have managed to identify two players - the Panasonic DMR-E20 and the Pioneer DVR-7000. Before I start reading the other posts, which would you recommend?

Oh and by the way, I cannot afford to wait! :)

If you have not already! Go and read the postings on the forum link below. In my oppinion the best DVD recorder forum on the net.

It is a DVD+RW biased and run for DVD+RW supportes. But there are (rightly or wrongly) a lot of good debates about all the existing and indeed likely future formats. A new Philips DVD+RW recorder the 985 is due for iminent release,so we are told! Also a Panasonic E30 due in the UK about August.

    Good luck. Malcom

See - I told you so!

I've got the Panasonic DMR-E20 and I'm very pleased with it. I paid £695 + P&P from PRCDIRECT.

They also do the Philips for slightly less. I believe the Pioneer is still about £1,000.

If you have any questions about the panny feel free to ask

The current what HI-FI mag has a shoot out between the Panasonic Philip's and Pioneer.
They said the Pioneer was the best, plus it has componant out, but you will probably find it is now the most expensive, now that PRCDirect have lowered the price of the Panasonic and the Philip's.
