I would go for a Marantz DVD4300, currently obtainable at huge discount via Richer Sounds. Cost around 125 including delivery ... if they have any left!!! It's great! Well reviewed, stunning picture quality, and also has very good musical abilities ... don't need a separate CD player with this unless very, very fussy.

But not PAL progressive, It will do Quasi PAl progressive but not too everyones taste, I personally wouldn't bother with a sub £150 PS player, the deinterlacers are bound to cheap so unless used with a very very cheap Projector (really cheap ones often lack component inputs anyhow) i would stick with a quality interlaced signal.
Panasonic S75 isnt bad and cheap enough or pioneer 565 is a good player too

I will be using it with a TV, the Thomson WB643S. It has component inputs and does progressive scan. Any further recommendations?

    Cheers

    Yamaha DVD-S540
    Cambridge Audio DVD55
    JVC XV-NA77SL

All can be bought for around £120.

Anyone know anything about the new JVC XV-N312S? Looks like it has a good spec for only £75, but can't find any reviews of its performance.

There are an ever increasing number of choices at the lower end of the market as technology moves downwards.

The new Pioneer DV370 (~£85), the DV470 or DV575a (when they arrive), the Sony 730 (~£160), Cambridge Azur 540D (£250), the Philips DVP630 (~£80). The Kiss DP-450 (~£120), Denon DVD770SD (~£199), the Yamaha DVD-S540 (~£100). More to come (not mentioning Chinese supermarket specials).

All of these players have PAL and NTSC PS. :clown:

I bought a Cambridge Audio DVD57 from Richer Sounds and it plays everything bar SACD (it does DVD-A though). PAL and NTSC progressive scan, MultiRegion out of the box, with component outs if you need them. Supposedly it has very good music playback too, but I've never tried it.

Came to £119.99, which IMO is excellent value considering what you get.

Me. Delivery was quick but I was sent a Black Model when I swore I ordered a Silver Model (comfirmation e-mail cofirmed Black) when I received it it looked as though it had been used before. Works OK though, but I'm going to change it when players with HDMI outputs become more affordable.

I hope you get a model that was re-packed better than mine (if you decide to order from them)
