My PS2 isn't really up to the job. (grrr.....sync probs!)

I'm thinking about the Sony DVP700 or maybe even pushing the boat out to the 900?

Ideally I'd like it to play as many formats as possible and be the best quality (duh!)

    My setup;

    Philips 36PW9607C (arrives next Friday)
    Sony QS DTS 5.1 amp
    4 x Tannoy Mx Floorstanders
    1 x Tannoy Mx Centre
another Sony Amp powering a JBL Sub.

    OK then

checked out the philips player and it looks pretty good

which is better for sound and picture quality?

    Philips Q50 multiregion £238

    or

    Sony DVP-S725D multiregion £299

is the sony worth the extra £60?

Save your cash and buy a pioneer DV444 from www.hifibitz.co.uk or click the top right of your screen. Brilliant service excellent player and looks soooooooooo good. Why spend another £100 odd quid unless you need progressive.
    Just my two euros!:D

This trying to narrow down my options post hasn't really worked.

300 quid is my top limit

i still think it's between the philips and the sony

and i think the sony 900 is probably a better quality player.

    would I be right?

Well, first i looked at Web electricals and saw it for £260,then gave my local Richer Sounds a call and they agreed to beat the price by a tenner.

Then if that wasnt good enough, they gave me a three year warranty for £20!!With an option that if i decide to upgrade within three years they would give me £125 back.
    couldnt believe my luck.

    Player is multiregion ready.

    Hi there,

The branch i bought from was Norwich, just give them or there mail order branch a call, tell them that web electricals have them for 260 and they will call them to confirm stock, and thats it.

My 510e is simply a treat to use and view, fantastic pictures, great audio, and the on screen menus are great too.

I tried prog scan on NTSC material and was impressed by the smoothness of the image, but to me it seemed to make it a little too soft, especially compared to interlaced PAL dvd's.

But whatever you use it for the quality really is there,PAL dvd's via component is very clear and sharp on my Projector and TV.

When I bought mine beginning of this year I was originally going for the Tosh 210 but the chap at Superfi said he heard problems with it and recommended the 444 at a similar price.

Never had any problems with my 444 and at £199 MR (£10-20 cheaper now) I think its great value.

Question for you - someone has asked whether you are affiliated with HiFiBitz since you always seem to reccommend them. Please clarify the situation.

    Spectre,

I am afraid that I am also frequently recommending Hifibitz as well. I have bought several things from them and have always found them very helpful when I place orders, pay for the goods and change my mind and want something else instead.

Like hornydragon, I have no affiliations to anyone in the industry but try to patronise forum sponsors whenever possible.

I believe Horny Dragon is in fact a poor student, given some of his other posts.

Webelectricals are now advertising the Tosh SD510E at £239.95. Noticed the change on Friday (gutted as I paid £259.95 2 weeks ago from Webelectricals).

Doesn't matter if they did Horny. Barclaycard only price match if it is advertised lower elsewhere. If it's the same store, they won't price match :(

Chin up, Conington. It's only £20, and you got it 2 weeks earlier :) Welcome to the whacky world of consumer electronics where prices fall more frequently than a hooker's knickers :D
