I have about £800 to spend on new dvd player.
What would be the best model to go for?
It will be connected to a Projector so prog scan would be nice.

    Any idea welcome.
    ;)

Denon 3800 can be found on the web for £769 - £799...new firmware should be out soon which will make this one of, if not THE best player for around £1000RRP

Also check out the Arcams if you can push the budget...

    Thanks guys.

These two players mentioned seem to fit the budget nicely.

Does NTSC progressive scan for the toshiba mean that prog scan on region 2 discs wont work?

    Correct.

In order to play Pal diiscs wiht a progressive output the player must support pal progressive.

If you do go for the Denon make sure you get the correct version of the firmware. there are some that tend to make the board blow and if you do this post purchase your warranty will be worth squat.

I've got mine pre-hacked to it was the dealer taking the risk :)

there is a thread on the forums asking for version no.s that work.

How do i know what firmware version the dvd player will be. And how do I get different firmware versions if need be?

Is the firmaware to correct the chroma bug issue I have read about?

    Regards,

    dom.

If you do a search there is a thread discussing this. It opens with the instructions on how to check the firmware version.

have a browse in there. It is to fix the chroma bug amongst other things. It also is for making it multi region and pal progressive.

    Denon 3800 for £800'ish - where to?

    www.discounttv.co.uk
    www.leconcepts.com
    www.prcdirect.co.uk
    www.unbeatable.co.uk

Most local hifi dealers should also price match to the £800 mark if you ask them nicely...;)

Personally I have used both discount tv and leconcepts beofre and had no problems...for this sort of dosh though it may be better to buy local in the event of any problems (if you can get them to price match)
