My mate is in the market for a new sub, but is looking for a downward firing beast, that also looks good. He has a very big room so small/mini sub would not do. The smaller Rels would not work (or would it).

    Budget is about £1000.

He heard the KEF 2500 sub and thought it was pants. The higher grade KEFS still don't get a great write up and the amps go pop very easily.

    Any ideas ?

Give the new REL Strata 5 a go, very nice at £800. I beieve there is a new storm coming out soon that would be just over the £1000 mark. If budget was not an issue then i can highly recommend the Stentor 3 for large rooms which comes in at £2500, I currently have one and am very happy with it.

I have also mentioned the SVS PB2 Ultra to him, but he maybe concerned about the distance purchase and warranty promises.

Having seen the review of this, he might be persuaded to go that extra half yard.

What about one of these: http://www.svsubwoofers.com/subs_ss.htm

Ok, you would have to get an amp to go with it, and it will come just above your £1,000 budget by itself, but if the PC Ultra is anything to go by, this one should be just as awesome, but with a nice wood finish :)

The PB1 plus would be a good choice and would knock most RELs dead
