As subject header. For WAF and child friendliness I'd prefer a down firing sub to compliment my system. This will be my first sub. I have an Arcam AVR100 (no bass management at all :( )
and MS 904 fronts, MS 905C Centre and Mission 73 rears. My room is 16 x 12 with laminate flooring.

Ideally I would like to pay no more than £300.
Does such a sub exist that's half decent, or am I limiting my choice too much by not looking at forward firing subs?
I'm not too fussed on the size, but the classic 1 foot square seem pretty unobtrusive. Is it daft to put style over sonic performance?

    Help please!

The Yamaha YSTSW320 is a bargain at £200 and is exactly what you need...
Goes down to 20Hz I think, so thats plenty of bass...
But Yammy subs arn't to popular on here...
I have the 315 myself and it is a bit "wooly" and not puchy but it fits my system so its great for me...

    Rel Strata?
    Rel Storm?

Probably be able to get them for £300 second hand, and much better than Yamaha mid woofers.

The MJ Acoustics Reference 100 is a decent sub and seems to match your requirements pretty well. You can grab one in black for about £315 if you pucker up. :)

Manufacturers have three methods of measuring the frequency response of subwoofers - anechoic chamber, in room or in your dreams and I think that the Yamaha having a reasonably flat response to 20Hz belongs firmly in the latter group.
